Dear All My crocodile 39567 is sick, again It has a non functional auto uncoupler at one end. It has already been back to marklin TWICE for this problem. The last time, they reprogrammed the decoder. Is there an easy fix, ie reset the decoder to default settings or will I have to send it back for a third time, this time not under guarantee. Do other people have the same problem with this model ???? Tim

It was issued in 2018, so should be good for a couple of years yet.

I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time. |

Tim, did you send it back to the mothership in Germany or did you go through Alex Stelzer and the Swiss service network? service(at)maerklin.ch https://www.maerklin.ch/...ervice/reparaturservice/I think that Maerklin CH now seems to suggest that warranty repairs now have to go through the Mothership. Regards Mike C

All Insider models are considered to be part of the MHI program. MHI stands for "Marklin Handler Initiative" and consists of a group of stores that have input into the special models that often are produced for only one production run. If you look at your catalogues you will find some models, both locos and rolling stock, are marked for the MHI program.

That is interesting. I have a number of MHI models but I never knew that my Insider Models were also part of the MHI program. But I do see the MHI logo on my 37990, which had escaped my notice for only 20 years! So Tim appears to be good to go for anther trip to Germany for his Crocodile. Hopefully they will get it right this time around. |

Jim

You can send an email to service(at)maerklin.de and see if they will repair it under warranty if you ship it directly to them. It might save a few days or weeks.

You will need to provide proof of purchase, but after that I would have thought that any dealer would handle it for you - although if it is not the dealer you purchased it from they may want you to pay for the cost of sending it back. I would expect the dealer you purchased from to absorb this cost out of the profit of selling the loco to you.

Hi All
For all Marklin warrantee work, all you need is proof of sale by yourself from a Marklin dealer. All I do is send the item back to Marklin Serviice with a photocopy of the original invoice. I do not know about the return postage though as Marklin send the items back with ordered spare parts. I would expect the customer to pay the return postage. The main point though is you can bypass the dealer, to save time and postage.

I haven't had mine out for a long while, maybe I better do that. I am looking at getting the two Marklin car transporters and the trix car transporter to go with the wagon set that goes with this loco, so I better make sure the loco works ...

That is frightening, I am sorry to hear it. I have only tested mine once and all worked well. I may need to give it an extended drive... |

Hi all Picked up my crocodile today after only 8 months !! in Marklin Goppingen for its latest repair. I also had to pay 74 chf for the pleasure as they decided that it was no longer under guarantee. Even though it is an MHI model (5 year guarantee). I just now have to wait for it to cool down a bit in the loft, so I can get it back on the layout. It has some serious work to do in my upper cargo yard. Tim

If you don't stand up for your rights, Marklin will just walk all over you. In NZ we have a consumer rights act, which enforces warranties. Also, if the expected life of a product [ ie 10 years ] you may expect it to last 10 years, and if it does not last, you have the right for it to be put right, even if the warranty is only 5 years. |
