I've just received a pack of three coaches - Marklin Mini-Club 87931.
They have an unusual coupling. Nothing like the 'hooks' on all of the models I've purchased so far (new and second hand).
These couplings are metallic in the shape of a 'Y'. They have to be manually connected and the 3 will link together but I can't see how I now couple them to the two loco's I have purchased (one of which is quite old but the other brand new).
Any help appreciated.

These coaches are an add-on for the #88731 powered railcar. They are not meant to be used with regular locos. |

It looks like you have bought the extension set for the Br 601 DMU (88731).

p.s. It seems that you've already worked that out.

@Carim Yes, possibly an expensive mistake. Is the 88731 the only locomotive that is compatible with these coaches? I have no problem purchasing one but can see it being tricky sourcing one.

There are several models of the VT 11.5 in TEE livery, but #88731 is a slightly different livery as used by DR. Mixing DR coaches into a DB train is probably without prototype, but I would assume that couplers will fit. |

@HO I'm not a purist (and I wouldn't see the difference between DR and DB anyway) so anything with the matching coupling to pull them will suffice for me.

@Roland
I'm new to this myself, hence the mistaken purchase I suppose.
I'm up for the challenge though. Plenty of lockdown time on my hands currently.
My preference will be to source a compatible loco. It seems to be fairly complex inside these carriages. The couplers transmit current and it looks like all coaches light up with multiple lights. It would be impressive.
Failing that I'll have to try and convert one.

I don't have this model at I don't model the era, but here is a link regarding the prototype https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/DB-Baureihe_VT_11.5The coaches for this unit are much shorter than conventional coaches. The Märklin couplers are current conducting ones that link much higher up on the coaches than conventional couplers do and, if their models of the ICE-X and ICE3 are anything to go by, are very delicate. There's another set (8873) as well on fleabay US and cheaper but it is old, used, modified, and missing parts. So old that I am not sure what couplings it uses. Well, that's it for the expensive solutions! If you decide to do something like this, the only source is the US, and they won't ship, PM me and maybe I can help. I like ztrack resale very much, never disappointed with them, but ebay is another matter.
