Hi all,
I was lucky enough recently to score a 1954 Pocher pipe carrying wagon Cat 181 on ebay.
The trackside unloading mast and the pipes were missing and the unloading lever on the wagon needed resoldering.
This is a cast base wagon with brass operating mechanism. Another operating wagon was a coal wagon Cat 183 but I have only seen a photo of that one.
The wagons are activated by a trackside mast with a horizontal tapered section which gradually pushed the lever mounted on the wagon inwards.
A photo from the Pocher catalogue.

My wagon was in great condition and everything worked as designed.

As I wanted to set mine up as a small diorama I had to provide a mechanism to push the lever inwards while the wagon was stationary.
A swinging lever was ruled out as it would move the wagon backwards or forwards rather than activate the mechanism.
The best solution was an operating arm applied at right angles the the side of the wagon.
Some photos of the set up.

This item is now sixty six years old and will join my other Pocher items.
Cheers,
Howard.

Hi Howard,

Well done on a great working diorama. Looks good and operates well.

Wonderful! As a Pocher fan, you solved a big mystery for me! I have the Fiat coal wagon and always wondered what the levers do. I must dig it and and have a second look now.

All I need is the platform and other cars!
