Hi Marklin specialists
Sometime ago I bought a Porsche Museum set catalogue number 26518 and I also bought a set of 75 anniversary set of cars to go with set number 41762 and filled it with Porsche 938 sports cars. My favourite car. The locomotive road number is 182 065–3
My disappointment came when I ran the locomotive for the first time and discovered it had only one sound. This disappointed me somewhat. I had a bit of research and it would appear that I cannot fit a sound decoder to this locomotive.
My crazy question is there a another Marklin 182 with full sound that I'm able to just exchange the bodies. I did think that the locomotive 39846 looked a suitable candidate that I could just change the bodies over then I would have a Porsche locomotive with full sound.
Your ideas on my crazy idea would be grateful and if this is not a suitable locomotive is there another one it would be better.
I patiently wait your expert opinion on this matter.
Kindest regards
Russell McKay

Hi Russell,

There have been quite a few BR182 produced by Marklin with full sound.
As far back as 2011, the 39837 was MFX with sound (good quality too).
It will depend on what is available to hand.

The only thing I would question is the compatibility of the bodies.
It would be ideal to find one second hand where you can try before you part with the money.
If you buy mail order, it may be possible to do a deal where you can return if not suitable.

Anway do a search on the Marklin website using BR182 - plenty are shown.

There are BR 182 models with two and with four powered axles respectively.
I assume those are two different families and bodies can only be swapped within a family.

BR 182 is just an alias for ES 64 U2. You can also consider Austrian Rh. 1016 and Rh. 1116 locos for a swap.
Regards
Tom

Hi thanks for you interest. I believe that because this loco has a C Sine motor that it is not possible to fit another decoder, Marklin or ESU. (Doin at Toottoot tried for with no success)

Yes, Tom, you are right. The body shells are different between the two-axle and four-axle drive locos. The shell and the mounting holes are different so that they cannot be interchanged.

Hi Members
I thought I would update you on progress of my Porsche 182 to full sound.
(1) I contacted Marklin and asked them about upgrading and they said I could fit a 60941 and suggested that I send the loco to them and they would give me a quote to do the job. I also asked them if a bogie part #227109 was available but yet no reply (2) I decided that changing the bodies was not a good option as it was a bit risky and quite expensive.
(3) Dave from Australia sent me quiet a lot of information on what was on the internet about Porsche locomotives upgrades which I found most interesting but nothing specific which was much appreciated and
(4) I then decided to remove the bogie to see if Marklin was right about the 60941 fitting which it did, however the mounting screws did not line up so I drilled and tapped 2 new holes opposite the originals. (See photo)
(5) I have ordered a Loksound decoder and mother board high is currently in transit.

Thanks to every one who offered advice and information it helped me to decide my coarse of action. I hope the one have chosen it the right one. I will update the forum on completion.

Hi members
Hi thought i would update you on progress of fitting a full sound decoder in my Porsche l82 locomotive. I purchased a Loksound 5 DCC/MM/SX/M4 21MTC decoder along with the Adaptor board 21 MTC an d i had a good friend fit it as i was very dubious about fitting the decoder my self because of the complex lighting the locomotive has. He made a marvellous job of fitting the decoder looks real professoinal Regards
