I'm having an attempt at building the Märklin Tower Crane from the booklet that came with the 10891 kit, but using parts from my 1014 / 1034 / 1080 Märklin Metall kits.

However, the 10891 booklet isn't so specific with some of the details such as construction of the tower, mounting of the platform to the tower, etc - it's hard to make out some of the detail from the photos in the book.

For example, there's no details as to what bits are required to build the A frame of the crane as seen in this picture.

Does anyone have or know where to find more details of how to build this crane - the model has been around since 1914 so I expect there must be something!

Photo shows a completed crane as seen in the Märklin factory in September last year.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Bigdaddynz
There is a website proposing free downloads of Märklin Metall (Meccano) instruction books. The website is herehttps://meccanoindex.co.uk/Other.../index.php?id=1546683767

For instance on the 1926 book on page (126 printed) or (142 PDF page number) of this book I find a crane similar to yours https://meccanoindex.co.uk/Other...n/Marklin-1926-04-71.pdf

I did not check all the books but your could find what you wish I hope
Cheers
Jean

I found the assembly manual of the exact crane you want to build here https://meccanoindex.co.uk/Other...n-10891-Turmdrehkran.pdf
Is this the one you have difficulties with?

Thanks Jean, that's the website I was trying to find (I have it bookmarked on my home PC, but not my work one).

The manual for the 10861 crane you refer to in your second post is the one I've been working off, and there are lots of photos there but no specifics on for example how many angled struts you need to make up the A frame.

The 1920's manual does show a bit of detail in that regard and is the sort of thing I was looking for - I probably have that manual downloaded somewhere but as usual it is associating what you are looking for with the document the info is in, so thanks for that.

That 1920's manual gives the German name for the crane so that is useful for searching on. Searching 'Märklin Turmdrehkran' shows up the following pages from Markus Schild which is the sort of thing I was looking for and as soon as I saw Markus' name I knew I'd hit paydirt!

I had to laugh at the comment on Markus' site...

"History of the model:
A model of Märklin designers, which is always popular, is the tower crane, which served as the cover image on many construction kits and screw boxes until 1942. Next to the crane stood a boy (sometimes also two or three), whose size (smallness) made the crane appear huge. The crane is built in the original just 103 cm high, jokes about small-growing Swabians are completely inappropriate and politically incorrect at this point....."

Sorry if these are too many photos here (there are more but I culled them down), but I'm trying to provide as much detail in visual form for anyone trying to build this crane, as there are gaps in the available information.
