My dealer has just let me know that Marklin is no longer filling orders from dealers for the Museum cars. From now and in the future they can only be purchased from the Museum itself.

This is great if you live in Germany, but it really sucks if you live down under as it is simply impossible for me to travel to Germany from Australia every year.

Yes they have done this before.
It is probably tied to the imminent opening of their new museum.
Like a promotion with integrity.
The retail sales persons can legitimately claim that these are special productions ONLY available at the museum.

In a few years, it will regress to the raffertys rules again.

They have always claimed that, even when the Museum wagons were openly available from retail shops.

For the past four or five years retail outlets have been selling them at Museum price +10%, which I assumed was because they were no longer able to get them at normal dealer discounts. I don't know if it was because they were sending someone to the museum to buy them because Marklin wouldn't supply them.

The dealers do go to the museum to obtain these wagons. They sell them with minimal markup as a courtesy to their customers. Not even everyone in Germany can make it to the museum. Try Modellbahn Matschke. I think he has some wagons.
