Hello. Sorry--I know this is a Marklin forum, but the HAG forum is .. well.. not in English :( If you wouldn't mind helping me, I would appreciate it even if this isn't quite the right place.

I have a McDonald's dining car made by HAG. It's for AC track, and I've checked--there is continuity between the wheels. Is there a simple formula for knowing which trucks to purchase to swap these out so that I can put this on my DC track? Or, even better, if there's a guide or instructions for exactly the best way to do this, I'd appreciate it if someone could point me there. Also, there is a lighting kit included with the car, but it hasn't been installed--so this won't be an issue. I'll use it with some other car, I suppose.

Thank you, in advance.

The model for AC comes with non-insulated wheelsets. For operation on a DC layout, you will require isolated wheelsets.
I think that you can order those from Eyro.ch, from Roundhouse.ch or any other good Swiss dealer. Christian at Eyro speaks reasonable English.

The bogies and chassis of the model are also made from metal, so you have to make sure that the DC wheelsets are properly installed, so that you don't create a short between plus and minus.
The AC lighting comes with one axle contact and one slider. For DC operation, you will need to replace the slider with a second axle contact (for the other rail).
Eurolokshop and Micro Macro Mundo both still have some Hag parts left in stock.

The wheelsets should be the same as for the coach 481 (481272-75)
The parts list also refers to a complete bogie: 499204-75

Oh.. also.. if I just order the wheels, how do I swap them? Do I just pry the old ones out, or is there something more elegant?

Yes, pry them out. Perhaps a bit of spacing with a screwdriver will be necessary.

Here is a scan of the English instruction sheet for the McDonald's car. You might want to pry out the entire bogie/truck first for an easier swapping of the wheelsets.
