Hi all,

I am new to the forum.

A few days ago I got took out my old train set, put some tracks together and tested the trains after about 30 years sitting in a box...

A lot maintenance had to be done BigGrin .

I saw that there is a high efficiency motor kit with a permanent magnet.
so here are my questions:
- assume that motor runs on DC then
- I will also need to install this small electronic module to replace the direction inverter
- this module rectifies the AV voltage from the tracks to DC to for motor?
- any tips or tricks anyone has?

Thanks
Robin

You replace the motor and the relay with the high efficiency motor and a decoder, then you run as before with your old transformer. In order to really benefit you need to replace the transformer with a digital controller, google "märklin mobile station 2" then the fun begins.

Hi Robin

Warm welcome to the forum.
As Henrik already wrote the direction inverter must be replaced and the motor needs to be converted from AC- Universal motor to DC 3 of 5 pole motor.
For quite a large number of locos produced by Märklin (with a drum collector) Märklin provides an economical upgrade set (60760) including a 5 pole DC motor upgrade kit and an FX decoder (36.90€ by MSL)
For older locos with a flat collector you need a motor -60943 for small collector or 60944 far large collector and a decoder mLD3 like the 60972 to be installed in the location of the old direction lnverter.
Of course there are a lot of other possibilities and I did not mention the case of very large motor Märklin locos (DL800, CCS800, ST800, RE800, 3015).
In all cases the above-mentioned decoders will rectify the voltage and provide DC drive to the motors
I hope this helps
Cheers
Jean
