Hi What track cleaning car would you suggest I buy ? - I run 3-rail C-track. A related question: Are the rails to be cleaned or is it just as much center studs? Can I use the "CMX Clean machine" for c-track ? This thread is continued from a previous thread - > https://www.marklin-users.net/fo...ult.aspx?g=posts&t=11334 |

Ross, Thx for the link
But what if i'm nervous about using sand paper for regular cleaning.
Isn't there another way than using sand paper when having 3-rail ?

use either the Marklin cleaning car or the Lux vacuum abd brush. slider usually keeps the centre studs clean. n |

I´m using chemical gasolin,by cleaning on the tracks.
It´s really heavy duty cleaning way,to take dirt and dust off from tracks...!

P.S.
Don´t have the power on,when you are cleaning tracks with chemical gasolin...!!! |

The actual rails are best cleaned by non-abrasive systems either with or without liquids, for instance this one made by Joerger: http://www.system-joerger.de/html/maerklin.htmlThere are also special cleaning sliders for the center studs, for instance manufactured by HAG of Switzerland. They should not be used too often because they can grind down the studs. However, if you really want to get rid of all the dirt lying around, hardly anything beats this precision Swiss made "vacuum turbine" (unfortunately, the price is Swiss too... ) http://www.rail4you.ch/dokumente/TurboSauger.pdf

I have a Centerline car for "wet" cleaning when the tracks are really dirty, the Lux cars (Vacuum and polisher) that I use occasionally, and the Marklin car (46042? I can't recall) that I run all the time. |

Does the M* 46042 clean oil from the tracks? Do you need to put any solvent on the felt pads? If so what? Thanks. |

Hi Steen, The sand paper solution should be used when all else fails as I state in my tip. Regular running of the trains will maintain good running. In practice I am using the centre stud lubricator on its own with contact cleaner more and more. I seldom have to clean my c-tracks. But when I do I use a clean cotton cloth dipped in 92%-99% isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) and wipe the place on the track that has the problem. It needs to dry a couple of minutes and then it usually works. If not, then try again. That will do it. A Pt.(16 oz, 473 ml) bottle of this will cost less than a dollar. Don't use abrasives or sand paper unless the track is in terrible shape or badly corroded looking.

The situation in each of our layout can be different even though we are talking about the same topic. My layout uses C-track and I are on track to have a hidden yard, where I can not reach the rear rails if they are to be cleaned (when the layout is finished, 3-4 layers). Therefore, I need some kind of cleaning car which can automatically run through my software which manages my layout. Now I try this LUX-Combo set and see if it works. The only question in my mind right now is that, besides the "mechanical" cleaning set from LUX, do I also need some kind of liquid cleaning (alcohol), like the CMX clean maschine. Time will tell |

I managed to pick up a LUX track cleaning car without a decoder. They tell me that I need to solder in a relay (tyco part number 1393774-1).. The problem is that Dick Smith and Jaycar don't seem to carry this relay.. It costs about US$3.50 .. Any ideas where I might pick up one in Australia?? |
