Reposting this from the FB group on behalf of Paul Van Grieken because I think it's a great topic that others might be interested in... The following is the list of twin-pack items that Paul originally added; 304/E - Esso tankcar 304/A - Aral tankcar 305 - Flatbed car 306/1 - Brown goods car 306/2 - with “stuckgutt schnellverkehr” 307/1 - Kuhlwagen 308/1 - Wine car “Bordeaux” 308/2 - Brown coal car 362 - Red kippwagen Many enthusiasts have never seen these twin-box items as they were more often sold separately by the retailer and the box discarded. Would be interested in discussion of these |

I was sure I had one of them myself but could not check while we were travelling, I've now confirmed my one which is "2 ST 304A" (2 Stück/Pieces - 304 Aral Tanker) Unfortunately the previous owner or store wrote over the label and the inside box is not the correct one for the lid, it's slightly smaller They are an interesting item all the same Cheers |

The stückgut schnellverkehr always ran in coupled pairs , it is logical to sell them in pairs!

Hi Cookee, It may be interesting, that the stamps vary. The early tankers came in boxes where name of the oil-company was fully written and not only abbreviated. Regards Markus

Henrik Schütz Stockholm Hi Henrick, that might be true but I think for those particular wagons it's coincidental, the twinpacks do seem to be more for economy than anything else. It's a pity they don't still do it, two small wagons, simply wrapped in a simple box would be economical, especially in the starter/hobby range Cheers |

Two questions, one simple, one esoteric. Presuming from the boxes, these sets were in the 1950s. Were they offered/catalogued over the whole decade or just a few years? Quote:From Cookie: Many enthusiasts have never seen these twin-box items as they were more often sold separately by the retailer and the box discarded. I had not heard of this, but had wondered at times about (#)/1 and (#)/2 designations on some items. (I thought maybe they were earlier versions of the same item with subtile differences or Momma M re-using the same number for a different car (finite limit to 3-digit item numbers...) ) Would this have been because it was economical for the retailer (even in the 1950s) to sell them individually? Or might it be that (same as myself sometimes) the customer shies away from multiple sets/packs because of the price, or even needs, space, or focus? Is that 3 questions? Jimmy |

Hi Jimmy,
The 30X cars (except 306/1S) were always delivered in the twin-boxes from 1953 to 1956. These boxes were not really intended for the final customer. The customer bought these cheaper models without a box, just wrapped by the dealer. Only the dealers got a notice that the cars could be only ordered in quantities which are multiples of two from the factory. The catalogues did not mention the kind of box.
Regards
Markus

Just resurrecting this for a simple question: Were there any passenger car "Twin-Packs" offered? Saw a passing glimpse (can not find it now) of 330/1 + 330/2. And those /1 and /2 puzzled my slow brain... Or were the twin-packs limited to freight cars only? Thanks! |

Yes passenger wagons 327 were sold in the double boxes. Both versions green and brown. Roger
