Would be nice for a chance to meet fellow M-U members who may also be there? We are coming via the UK and spending some time there before crossing over via the Chunnel. Most of the websites are not in English available. Also these nostalgic train rides are not every weekend and you have to book a long time in advance. Finally it has to be around the IMA days 13th to 15th of September. I made a quick search and found one steamer trip from Karlsruhe to Baiersbronn, where is a local station party. See the website first and then tell me, if it might be suitable for you and you need further support. This trip is on Sunday 15th, 2019. It means, you have to leave Goeppingen the night before to Karlsruhe, stay there overnight and then take the nostalgic train on Sunday morning 9:00 o'clock. Roundtrip shall be 26 € plus 5€ for reservation. If you do a donation say by about 100 € you may drive on the steamer loco but you have to shovel coal. Ask for it by reservation. The advantage is the very scenic routing (see 2nd link) through the Murgtal right into the black forrest to Baiersbronn with a further transfer possibility to Freudenstadt. If you are planning on trying to get some rides in while being in Germany for the Marklin festival, the "Ulmer Eisenbahnfreunde" might be of interest because the city if Ulm is not too far from Goeppingen: UEF You can search for "Nostalgie" or "Nostalgiefahren", "Dampfzug" or "Dampflok". If you have specific dates in mind, let me know and I can do some research for you.

In the Goppingen / Stuttgart area there are many: Schwabische Alb Bahn is my personal favourite, start at Munsingen. Schwabische Waldbahn is not far from Goppingen, UEF as previously mentioned is at Ulm, the Hollentalbahn is a little further away in the Black Forest. Stuttgart has a tramway museum worth a visit. The Talesbahn runs from Nurtingen to Neuffen. zrt.ch are doing a 3 day event to Marklin tage from Switzerland. SVG Museum at Horb is certainly worth a look if you are in the area, with a flea market the Saturday before the Marklin days. SVG usually run a special train from Stuttgart to Goppingen for the Marklin Tage. Pay on the train. Steam trips operate from Goppingen Station throughout the Marklin days, for example up the Geislingen Steige and back. Hope that helps. IanC

In 2013 we went to Geislingen by train, walked to Amstetten, and took a train back. In addition to the view from the outcropping, on the platform in Amstetten we saw a helper engine decouple and return to Geislingen. A last bonus was an E94 with a Silberling passing through the station in Geislingen while we waited for our connecting train. Jeroen

In Nuernberg you find the original S 2/6 steamer. https://www.dbmuseum.de/museum_de From Nuernberg you may go via Stuttgart to Goeppingen or you go via Noerdlingen (all transportation by train) and see the Museum there. Normally a part of their locos are in Goeppingen as well. Possibly have lunch in the factory canteen (don't know if they do this Friday, I have done it on Saturday before) 2. Be at Staufer Park by 3pm for the Herbst new Items show, and pick up IMA wagons at ticket tent. 3. Saturday Morning head to the station to see the Marklin advertising Loco as modelled by 39378, as it is only here for the morning. 4. Head to Staufer Park to finally buy entrance tickets (I reckon it should be possible to not need tickets on Friday, I have never needed them to get into the factory before), tour Staufer Park halls. 5. Head back to the Railway Station platform 4 for our 4@4 meet. 6. On Sunday go back to Staufer Park and see exhibits I have missed, go to Leonid Weiss depot, and maybe go to the hall where the LGB exhibition is.

Sebastian Yes, although the term 'build' is pretty loosely used In the past they have had a range of three locos you can do the final assembly on, typically a DHG500, and a couple of mainline locos. The factory supplies rolling chassis (presumably already fully tested), and then the customer (you) gets to fit the body and some detail parts that finish the assembly off. You then test it on a very short piece of track to ensure that it does work. I believe they all come with very basic mfx decoders, certainly the DHG500 loco does. Certainly with getting one if it is a loco that suits your layout. The stand can be a bit crowded, but they have up to four being assembled at any one time, with a staff member looking over your shoulder. I bought a DGH500 last time, and am seriously thinking of getting another loco this year. I'll see what the other locos on offer are. [edit] whoops, I didn't read your question properly ... No you don't build anything in the factory. You can buy a wagon that is only available on the factory tour - if they don't run out like they did last time. If you didn't get it on the Friday then you missed out. Someone badly misjudged how many they needed, or dealers went on the Friday and bought up large. The locos I mention above are on the Marklin stand at Staufer Park. [/edit]

Sebastian Well, I remember, when I did the factory magical mystery tour in 2015 at these days Maerklin built the Insider Donald Duck Lufthansa Airport Express (Maerklin art #37779) https://www.maerklin.de/...s/details/article/37779/ over all production steps. It starts with the melting and moulding of the zinc body. Step by step you see the product growing till it was finished and running at the quality control station at the end of the production plant tour. Almost at the end of the very interesting tour was the sales point for the company tour toys. The special car AND the assembling station for the priorly bought loco components. With help of a friendly Maerklin worker (she assures that you get a perfectly assembled high quality loco) you assemble the parts of your new loco. This point was totally overcrowded. I skipped this station and went straight on to the quality control station. This was of much more interest to me and poorly attended by others.

Maerklin even is building special tracks at the EWS Arena to place the loco there. But where is the loco from? It is from the Preßnitztalbahn. Our team schedule have early Saturday morning at Stauferpark and later at RR station for the BR101 (Mar-39378) and back to Stauferpark again !!! Dimitris
