Good afternoon everyone, I was running two engines with my ECoS. One mount an ESU Lokpilot and the other a Motorola where I have applied the chokes. This loco is a retrofitted 3035
To avoid a collision I pressed the STOP button.
When I powered back the track the Esu loco resumed exactly where it left off.
The 3035's light started flickering and all of a sudden it shot down the track. It never came back to life.
I tried reading the decoder, it fails reading it.
I used the reset code on CV8 but nothing changed. Only one light bulb lights up and is always on.

Is the decoder really dead ? I believe so Cursing

Never had this happen to me before

Has anybody else witnessed this type of behaviour

Regards

Well, if the decoder is really dead, do you think that still a ligth would burn?

Why not? A transistor can fail either as open or as a short.

Heat not removed burns up the semiconductor junction (open,) while surges will weld it (short.)

Per.

Cool

I never tested it and I also do not want to test it, too expensive. But by logic, if a decoder is "really dead", how shall it still supply any consumer with power? We do not talk about a transistor etc., we talk about a complete and really dead decoder.Cool

The "thing" that turns power on or off in a decoder, is a transistor. BigGrin

It can be inside an integrated circuit; but it's still a transistor.

You are surely a nice person who tries to help; but just as surely you have no idea how electrical or electronic circuits work. Blink

Don't get hung up on 'dead' - "Failed" would be a more accurate word in this context even though 'dead' also covers it quite well.

The decoder appears to have failed, internal damage has left it in an undetermined state where it no longer responds to commands but some internal circuits are permanently altered/damaged with one symptom being the continuous light glowing.

ie - "The lights are on but nobody is home" BigGrin

Cheers
