I acquired a 39730 with the video doors.

The doors on one side seems to be dimmer than the doors on the other side. Has anyone had this issue - does anyone know if/how to adjust brightness of the doors?

Many thanks !

Charles !

F14 allows you to dim the door lighting, but it does not provide a choice of side. If one side is brighter that the other, it could be a voltage drop on the lest bright side. It could also be a problem with the screen. I have not had mine out of the box for over four years. If I have time this weekend, I might have a quick look - it depends on what FD has planned and how hot it is on the weekend.. Scared

The backlighting on the LCD pannels could be dimmer on one vs the other. If the wiring to the display pannels has a dedicated power line that powers only the backlight of the pannel, you could possibly add an inline resitor of very low value to dim down the brighter panels to the same level as the dim ones. If its possible and I wanted to go that way, I'd put little adjustable potentiometers on all the pannels so I could adjust them all to the same brightness. But not having the train or knowing how its door displays are powered, I cannot say if this is easily possible. If part of the backlighting has failed, then you'd need to replace the backlighting or whole pannel itself.

I have 4 of this model and all 4 have been returned to Marklin for service regarding the video screens. They are now out of warranty and the video screens have failed again. IMHO this model is a piece of S@#$. At first, Marklin wouldn't repair the screens and offered me another model of equal value. I said I wanted the video screens and waited six months for them to get another supplier of the screens, which proved not to be any better. You'll notice that Marklin don't sell this model anymore and they haven't followed it up with any other models. In plain English - it's just a gimmick.
Take it easy . . . . or any other way you can get it !!!!

Thanks for all of the feedback, One side of mine is definitely dim. Sounds like it was a trouble prone model.

I get where it seems to be a gimmick model - but interestingly enough they rarely and I mean rarely come up on eBay for sale so people must like them.

I have 4 of these models and I'd gladly sell them to you, however, I wouldn't want to wish this on anyone on the forum.

Revive old thread. A guy is selling one on eBay and he has the screens recently repaired by Märklin in Jan 2024 for €103.

Hi
Yes this is part of Märklin innovation tries.
There are some failures like this video doors, the ultra-simple piezo motors etc but there are many many good innovations. "One ne fait pas d'omelette sans casser des oeufs" as we say in France (No omelette without breaking eggs).
I remember being attracted by these video doors and then I went to a Paris train show to visit the Märklin layout and see those models.
I was so disappointed to see how ambient light-related it was (not to speak about poor aging of the displays.

Cheers
Jean

I, too have noticed the faded doors on this model after a recent running. Good to know it can be fixed.

Do we have more information on how to get this to happen? I am pretty sure mine are still okay as I have only run the train two or three times, but it would be nice to see if there is a new type of screen that is more durable.

It was a while ago when I was asked to produce 5 layouts for 5 nursing homes and then covid came along and it killed the business. That's why I bought 4 models and all 4 were hopeless - a true failure, and Marklin still put them on the market. I returned 2 of them and had them repaired but they failed very soon.

So IMHO don't buy it.

I know better Screens are available now. I've seen ho scale led station destination boards, fuel station price signs, and the numbers can be changed. Also TV sets inside of buildings.

...and not a single one of you was concerned about all those people who leave the train only to vanish the moment they step through the door...

This i a serious situation, at least for me. I spent over A$3,000.00 on these video trains and Marklin didn't have the guts to admit that they were a failure - typical of Marklin in these circumstances. Can anyone mention when Marklin admitted in the past to producing a bad product ? I also bought both versions of the new c track turntable and both are faulty.

A not very happy chappy.

Märklin will never admit to anything, I had it back in the 80's with faulty turnout tongues, took us 48 hours to find the short, one of the turnout tongues spot weld pin came off and the tongue laid across the middle contacts,, they eventually changed the design but never admitted anything and I'm still plagued with it., we had a train exhibition 250km south of Perth, all was advertised on TV and shops in Busselton and we couldn't open the Exhibition on opening day, we couldn't let anybody know, so people came to the door and we had to tell them what happened., I was furious at the time and I know how you feel. and than there was the saga with the C-tracks, they just crumbled., turnout motors with mini switches, the unreliable switching track both K and C tracks., faulty cogwheel in loco, half the cogwheel didn't have any teeth and a few other examples where as 1 part of the loco failed but you had to send the whole loco back for warranty..,

... not to mention the "zink pest" problem and the great hassles to get those repaired/replaced under warranty...
