Good afternoon,

Can somebody explain me how to get the 'sniffer' on a Esu Ecos2 working.
e.g. I've got a Märklin train running on digital number 08.
What should be the sniffer address?
Same with: Märklin train running on digital number 11
What should be the sniffer address?
Thanks.
Best, Paul

Hi, Paul,

Leave the sniffer address empty to use the loco address.
Use the sniffer address for mfx locos and for addresses that are not supported by the external controller.

A sample case where you need the sniffer address: If the controller at the sniffer port is e.g. a CU 6021 with the 80 address limit and you have a DCC loco with the address 1116, then you can set the sniffer address to 16 and use address 16 on the CU 6021 to drive that loco.
Regards
Tom

Ok, but I've no DCC locs. Only Märklin Motorola between 15 and 20 years old, but running very well still. Obviously with the first or second generation of decoders. Which mean (as in my example): one loc is running on the address 08. The question is in this particular case: how can I use this on the Control 80F, when my Ecos2 main controllers ar already used by two other locs? What needs to be done?
Thanks!

Connect the Control 80f to a CU 6021 or an Intellibox which you connect to the sniffer port.

The sniffer port gets connected to the track output of another controller. The 80f does not have a track output, the 6021 does. So does the Intellibox.

With your configuration, leave the sniffer address empty.

I am glad you were able to get your problem resolved, could you please express in Digital for DUMMIES what the heck you are discussing PLEASE!
I have a very rudimentary knowledge from reading (not doing yet) of 6021 level digital, I am working towards an Anolog - Digital layout totally seperate controller/circuits wise, as I have all metal loco's from the early 50's to 2000 era digital/delta units.

Any education you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Woody

Central Station 1 and ESU ECoS have a sniffer port that allows to use another digital controller as an extra throttle. You simply connect the track output of the other controller to the sniffer port.
This allows using systems like CU 6021 or MS2 and many other more with CS1/ECoS.
