I am recreating the Berlin Duty Train that went from West Berlin to West Germany every night. I worked on it for a year. I have the cars I am going to use, but, I need to paint over the DB markings and destination placards at both ends, I want to match the paint as precisely as I can without needing to paint the whole car.

Does anyone know what paint would very nearly precisely match the ocean blue part of the paint scheme for an Era IV passenger car with the Ocean Blue (or sometimes called a Turkish Blue) under tan paint scheme and what paint would match the orange first class band over the windows?

Many thanks in advance.

This chart shows how to make up some of the DB paint colours using Humbrol paints.

I'm not sure if the Green Blue colour is the one you want. The chart also shows Blood Orange.

For completeness, I'm showing the other chart I have plus the measurement guide.

These were taken by phone camera from a Humbrol manual a local model shop (now sadly closed) had.

From my experience what you trying to do is very difficult bordering on impossible. I would suggest starting with a color that close and then mixing other colors with it to try and get as close a match as you can. You also need to let the paint dry before comparing as most colors get slightly lighter or darker when they are dry. You also need to consider matching the sheen of the original paint. (matt/flat, satin, semi gloss etc.) This can also affect how the eye perceives the hue of the color. Good luck!

Many thanks to you all. I did buy a spare car to experiment on to ensure that I don't botch this. If I have to paint the whole thing, I have to. I sincerely appreciate the help to you both!

if the project took as much work as it sounds like it did, I'd probably get a close blue and do the whole thing so it matches/is consistent
