I have the above model. I am trying to remove the body. The instructions that came with it indicate that there is a screw in the middle chiminea, but I cannot find the cap to remove. Any suggestions?

not sure if 3504 is of this type, but sometimes there is a small 'lid' covering the screw, which should be lifted out first.

Can you post an image of the top of the loco? The screw should be black and be of the 'flat' type. Likely in the middle of a steam dome, not in the chimney.

The screws to remove the body of the 3304/3504 Br80 tank locomotive are located under the hatches/ lids on the top of the water tank along each side of the boiler. You have to gently remove the hatch/lid with a screwdriver and they will pop off, revealing a screw on each side. Richard

Thank you very much. I had mis-interpreted the drawing. Since you are so knowledgeable, can you please help me to find information on how to convert an analog system to a digital one? Thank you.

It has a DCM motor, so it can be upgraded with the 60760 set (motor parts + decoder) or 60941 (motor parts) and a decoder of your choice (Märklin or other brand).

60760 is cheaper, but the decoder included is very simple and doesn’t speak mfx. On the other hand the loco is also simple and has no extra functions, and you can program the decoder with a Mobile Station.

If you choose 60941 you need to add a decoder. A safe choice is an mfx decoder, but ESU Lokpilot M4 has the same capability. Other decoder from ESU can also be used, they all offer DCC protocol, but make sure you have MM protocol as well for backwards compatibility.

Installing the digital upgrade requires basic skills in soldering. Unlike some locos where you just plug the decoder in, these locos are not prepared for digital upgrade.

Here is the complete explosion drawing of your nice little loco.

And here I found a video as a BR 80 is digitalized. Unfortunately in German but over 1 hour duration. Perhaps it may help alittle bit.

And of course there are many descriptions, but they are all in German. Do not know if they may help you.

I have made a conversion of a "3504" many years ago (from the 2666 set) to 6090, if I remember correctly I ripped everything out and replaced it...

I'll try to find it in the storage location and take a pic of how it looked inside after my conversion... Can take a few days...
One thing I immediately recall is that I had problems with the 6090-set motor cover, I had to turn it upside down - otherwise it shorted towards the metal loco body.

The German conversion video shows a conversion good too, but I think that's a 3304...

Hi All,

This is how you can add LED lighting and Telex couplers after you have upgraded the motor.

Please see 3704 Telex and LED lighting upgrade

I hope forum members will find it useful.
