So, I thought it would be a good idea to remove a little paint from the inside of the chimney before pressing in a smoke generator on my mint Br44 reissue. Just a few strokes with a round jewelers file should do the trick. Right? Wrong! I slipped and removed paint from the outside of the boiler instead . Maybe I just won't tell anyone and nobody will notice. I gotta laugh because the attachment for the photo said "Add File". Live and learn, Live and learn. Mikey |

I would glue a preiser on to the boiler so it looks like he just slipped off the top, while cleaning the chimney stack.. |

you can remove it with Microsoft paint, we wouldn't be able to see it than. the other problem these days you can't get any professional chimney sweepers anymore., use 1200 grid sandpaper wet & dry, can't you cut the boiler on either side this way you remove the scratch or you view the loco from the other side only instead of traveling to the right it should travel to the left all the time and after couple of weeks you've forgotten about the scratch.
I would suggest you buy a 2lt tin of black paint just in case you repeat the same scenario. or you could go to church on Sunday and tell them all your sins., God should be able to forgive you. last resort ring up your insurance company and say your loco has lost most of its value due to an accident. |

Black paint (difficult to do) or soot (easy to do) A complete respray which might not look to good but all of the loco would be the same.
As River says an insurance claim would be interesting and could include a claim from Preisers who have been unable to travel.

All jokes aside, why not just touch in the scratch with a black permanent marker? |

Besides, If I drop dead, the next guy can use it as a bargaining chip (No pun intended). Maybe it will be one of you guys who buys it . Mikey |

Mikey Haha, if you see it or not, nevertheless make your day busier: why don't you send your loco to @dominator. He is experienced in a black loco painting. https://www.marklin-user...g-paint-off-plastic-body

I have done some amazing paint repairs with markers. You can just trace over the scratch with a marker tip and then give it a quick wipe with a cloth to blend it. If you still see the scratch you can repeat until the defect is covered. You would be amazed at how nice a marker repair can be if you pay attention and do it correctly. They often look far better than most modeler's attempts at a repaint. |

Jim
I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time. |

I use cardboard with bubbies wrapped for smoke unit fitted to locos. Make sure double check parts around the boiler/chimney. |
