I've found on ebay the locos mentioned in the subject. One is a 3021 and the other is the 3482

I'm unsure which to get. They have both to be converted to digital anyway. I had a 3021 as one of my first Marklin locos so my heart beats in this direction but looking closely at both it looks like the 3482 is a much more refined and better tooled model than the 3021. Who has the 3482 on their layout that can tell me a bit more about it?

Yes, recently I've been using the 60972 or 60982 mLD3 decoder. Very good performance and you get mfx auto-registration.

I sometimes use ESU Lokpilot decoders, but for standard Marklin 5 pole DCM motors the Marklin decoders require much fewer adjustments of cv's.

The 3482 has an electronic reverse PCB which needs to be removed for the conversion. This board also provided the supply for the directional lights, at a lower voltage than is normal. If you leave the original bulbs in they will blow with the higher voltage supply from the decoder. You will need to replace them with standard bulbs for digital use (22V). The part number for these is E610080.

Nice model, very well made, all metal and heavy, like the old Marklin models
The body work is perfect too !!

I have done a bit of a run in forward and backward.

The lights work nicely but in analog, or analogue, the red lights light up as well, or at least they can be seen through the transparencies.

Had to add a bit of oil on the wheel axels. Could not access the axels of the rotor as there is a metal U shaped thing that embraces the motor itself horizontally so I'll have to wait until I convert it to digital to oil the rotor axel.

The funny thing is that the engine smells of moth balls, really weird

I'm now waiting for the postman to deliver the 60790 kit and the digital light bulbs.

If your picture shows the brush plate from the 60760 kit then you will see if you look closely that its dimensions are slightly different from the original one in the 3 pole motor. This is because the permanent magnet is slightly wider than the AC field coil. Use the item in the kit as per the instructions.

The "disc" is a suppression capacitor and should be kept in circuit.
