Hi, I bought the 60971 lokprogrammer for Märklin Lok and Sound decoders, eventually I got the USB stick going and it was recognized by the computer. it looks like the sound decoders I've got aren't msd/3 but an earlier version which I believe can only be programmed via the CS is this correct ? 2nd request: is there a website where the instructions for downloading a sound file is in English. Hi John,
I'm not sure about the part number for the Lokprogrammer but if it is the ESU 53452 Lokprogrammer it quite easy. As I have done a quite a few decoder sound files in my day.

Hello. I own this USB-BASED tool and I have used it quite many time. mDecoderTool3 ( which is PC-application) did see CS2-controller but it don't see new CS3Plus-controller. So if you dream to use this tool with CS3 or CS3Plus it won't work yet. Perhaps in future If I remember right you have to install special driver for USB-part of this tool. It is not user friendly but it works ok(IMHO). You have to load sound-library in which there are lots of different sounds, but . . . If you want to listen those sounds you cannot use normal PC-sound-applications. For some reason Märklin hasn made all waw-files so that only mDecoderTool3 can play back them. ( Of course there might be other applications which can be found from Internet ). Märklin has announced new 60970 Decoder Tester, which is coming this summer . I hope there would be some kind of connection between mDecoderTool3 and this new device. Spring is here Have Fun everyone Regards Jukka

It will have the same connection as the little PCB that comes with the USB stick. You can attach it to the USB stick and program/test your decoder configuration. That way you do not have to put the decoder back and forth between the PCB and the loco all the time. It will also have connections for other than 21 pin decoders and a terminal for wired connections.

John I cannot answer the question, but provide some additional information that may be useful. To program CV values and the like, I think you can do that with a CS MS or the programmer. What the programmer provides is a way to update/modify the sound files on he sound capable decoders (someone correct me if there is an additional thing a decoder programmer can do beyond that, which a CS/MS cannot do) Its my understanding that the factory (Märklin) installed decoders that are in locomotives (and I don't know if your pictured decoder is one of those) are like their other sound decoders, but can have a setting/configuration/hardware fuse/etc set so that you cannot modify the sound files in them, even with a decoder programmer. |
