Hi all i know this is a sore point with all those that have lost these lovely model to Zinkpest. I was just wondering if anybody has had any luck in tracing down replacement frames #35 part number E321289

Seetal Link

I was just hoping somebody out there has come up with a method to replace this frame using another material albeit 3D printing.

I have two frame needing replacement sadly Cursing. Looking forward to your input.

My recommendation would be to send an email to service(at)maerklin.de, informing them that you are having a problem with this model and are looking for a replacement frame.
So far, there were at least 4 different models of the De 6/6 (37521, 37522, 37524, 37526), so hopefully at least one of them had metal that was not affected. It is possible that Maerklin had the parts in stock for repairs but not as spare parts for sale. You could also try getting in touch with Maerklin's Swiss Service Centre: http://www.maerklin.ch/de/service/repservice.html

I had two issues (37521 and 37522), one of which marklin replaced themselves for me free of charge while it was a somewhat new loco, and the second of which I jsut bought the part and did it.

Now the second problem: the plastic gears in these also crumble. Not a good situation. I sold mine off as I didn't have the heart to deal with it anymore.

I'd be curious as well to hear if the newer ones are "safe", as they really were two of my favorite locomotives...

Hello Mike, many thanks for your reply. I have a contact living in the town of Göppingen whom I met while living in New Zealand. She has a friend employed in the Marklin factory. I thought a little insider help would end all my woes only to find they truly don't have this item available at all & the pair of them really did try hard for me. Maybe the Swiss option is the way to go.Confused

Hello John, these two locos are also my two favourites & it pains me to see them just sitting there in that diseased state.Sad

The problem, unfortunately, goes beyond just the frame. Cursing

My 37521 has been plagued by the pest on two occasions already. The first time, it attacked the frame. I had to send it to the Märklin factory in Goppingen, pay for postage there and back and also for the repair (replacement of the frame), as this happened during the Pluta years when they did not have any money for warranties.

The second time around, this year, I noticed that my 37521 would not move. After further investigation, it turned out that some of the gears were in the process of becoming disintegrated. And there is no replacement for all of them.

My recommendation is that you work with your dealer or with Märklin Service and see if they can offer some sort of solution, which is what I did. However, the most recent Seetal croc, which is supposed to be free of problems, is already sold out at the factory.
Best regards,
Armando García

The other place to try would be Ritter Restoration.

... and the newer frame is a different casting and not interchangeable, sadly.

Hello Nigel, I had a look at the frame of 37526 & yes completely different. So no chance with that dream. Kiwi Alan I will try your suggestion next. Armando I will check the gears on both of my unit to see if they too have been plagued with the disease. Thanks to all for your responses. Too all the forum members & Johan, have a very merry Christmas.

Armando you are right. Both gears "small plastic gears" that drive all the other gears from the worm shaft have split apart at one end on both bogies. I suppose now I have to purchase the whole shaft assembly #51 minus the brass bearings. Hope it includes the small splined gear which is the one that has split.

I was wondering if : https://www.maerklin.de/service/...&artikelnummer=37526
Item 25 E248862 Getriebekasten @ 15,00 € is the same as that of Marklin #37521. Here they sell it complete?

I found the answer on the "Three Rail Forum". They suggested this seller for Seetal parts. He has the parts I want.
