Hello all, I saw a commercial for the new "Murder on the Orient express" movie and was curious as to what type of lok Hollywood wants us to believe is accurate for this train. They have it numbered as a class 241 however, I went googling and was unable to find one that looks as crazy as this one. Any thoughts? Mikey |

Hi Mike
The lok is SNCF 241A65 with some modification to the front end. This is the same one as the new Marklin model.

From that photo, it looks like they have used a lot of models (probably any scale from 1:100 to 1:10 etc) and digital imaging.

Hi Kimball,
I don't know about that. Even if some scenes are made with CGI I doubt the rest of the film will be.
German wikipedia says this on the SNCF 241A:
Sie wird im Remake vom Film "Mord im Orient-Express" mit Johnny Depp und Michelle Pfeiffer in Szenen zu sehen sein, welche auf der Strecke der Schweizer Kleinbahn "Sursee-Triengen-Bahn" gedreht wurden.
In English: The loco will be featured in the remake of the film "Murder on the Orient Express" with Johnny Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer. It will be able to be seen in scenes, which are to be filmed on the line of the Swiss small railway "Sursee Triengen Bahn."

They probably CGI the snow plow and the center of the smokebox headlight when they need to show the front end. The snow is probably imaged in too. It reminds me of Jack Lemon's car in The Great Race. |

regards Peter I doubt this, the movie was filmed in susses (in the UK) so they would have to have transported the loco to the UK, which would have created a lot of interest in the RR fraternity here. There is a photo in the UK Radio Times that has this weeks programs, of the movie set, and it describes it as a 'purpose built set' (I'm paraphrasing slightly as I can't remember it exactly). I suspect it is a british loco made up (in someones imagination) to look like a 241A.

The smoke deflectors look same but have swapped smoke deflector from left to right side and other right to left side during the filming. |

I got more info. The film was made at Longcross Studios in Surrey. Note the CGI screens. No info on the lok yet. Boy oh boy look at all the trouble they went through. I could have saved them allot of money and just did it on my layout. Mikey |

It just occurred to me; The only live steam locomotives with this much snow stuck to them are the ones parked outside museums as static displays. Mikey |

Well, if you could find a snow weathered 241A (Nurnberg show loco prediction?) then you could use some new LS Models coaches that have been produced for the movie.

How many coaches are included with this LS Models set? Are they all covered with snow as shown in the photo?
