Hi,

One of Dale's articles has caught my attention :

Dale Decoder Used for Purpose

(thanks Dale for your article)

Now, I am wondering whether I can take an old Delta Decoder and build a circuit to drive the Turntable.
I have several old Delta decoders which are lying around and hopefully some of you may have an idea of how to do this.

My thought is that the Decoder "speed control" can turn the Turntable motor in either forwards or reverse,
and the Decoder "Light Function" can be switched on and off to initiate the rotation.

Please let me know whether you think this could work ?
It would be helpful to provide a electrical diagram if possible.

Hi John,

I am note sure how much current the TT motor draws, but certainly one can find out quickly if it is too much, by sacrificing one decoder.

I think the plan is sound though, I see no other reason why it would not work. I don't think you need the light function to initiate movement, just switch the motor on when you want movement.

I do have a page about how I drive my turntable using a k84 module at http://cabin-layout.blog...zing-turntable-7286.html

Hi

I my opinion (I have both the old 7186 and new turntable 7286) there is no problem driving the TT with a delta decoder.
The old TT is the old small flat collector motor that may be driven directly with a Delta decoder (suited for all current motors)
The new TT 7286 is a small DC motor that could be driven using a diode on each of the Delta decoder motor outputs.

AFAIK one supplementary output is needed to restart the motor after it reached a track. Is it available on your Delta decoder (very often not)?
A second Delta decoder with a second address could be used to unlatch the motor. You probably need a small relay for the old TT 7186

So in short with 2 Delta decoders, it is possible to drive the TT.

Cheers

Hi again

I have found the connection needed:
On the old TT: see the attachment 1 (thanks to www.railroad24.de, 23er Manni)Connection 7186.png

On the new TT: see attachment 2 (thanks to www.railroad24.de , Peter1956)
Connection 7286.png Points 2 and 3 to the Delta decoder motor outputs and the 1 to drive the unlatch solenoid.
A Diode may be needed to install in series with each of the motor outputs of the Delta decoder

I hope this helps (personally I have used a DS2010 decoder to drive the 7286 TT)

Again thanks to the authors of posts from which the schémas are coming from.
Cheers

Jean
