Double fudge, same train (this version appearls to be 3 cars, although the heavyweight baggage car may be hard eto come by) in Denver, CO on August 29, 1970 being pulled by none other than a single ATSF F7A, and not in a normal passenger livery :) Source: http://www.railpictures.net/vie...php?id=526415&nseq=2-Brandon |

There seems anyway not to be too much of a livery left to tell. Looking at the background: I was always surprised about the thin stilts of the Denver road bridge. Is there so much less gravity when being a mile high? ;o) |

Most likely it has 20+ years of service under it's belt already, apparently all of them with that paint job :) I found some photos of ATSF 238 (F7, number was later reused for a SD75M), looks like it spent a lot of time in Colorado, at least from 1964-1974. Seems like the paint was better in 1974 than 1970? Amazing they would take the time to keep such an old unit up. http://www.rrpicturearch...copicture.aspx?id=139970I think those are mostly for decoration, the big steel truss is doing the job. Give the amount of motive power required to get something over Tennessee Pass, I'm sure Colorado Rail workers would disagree about a lack of gravity ;) -Brandon |

Some ATSF stock: 1.) Single E8 unit with four (?) cars, 2 head end cars and two passenger cars. "Santa Fe’s Train 201 behind E unit 81 zips through Fowler, Colo. on its way to Pueblo and on to Denver on April 15, 1967." Source: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=567199&nseq=22.) ATSF GP7 with a local freight, Santa Fe, New Mexico, Febuary 20, 1969 "On a bright but very cold February 20, 1969, GP7 2811 rolls the (almost) daily local out of Santa Fe, headed down the 18-mile branch to a connection with the main line at Lamy. In 1880, the AT&SF bypassed its namesake city for the easer-to-reach Albuquerque, and ever afterwards passengers for the New Mexican capital were required to detrain and finish their journey by stagecoach or limousine. Local freight service, never robust – the four cars here are representative -- will continue until 1992 when Santa Fe Southern Railway will buy the line for a freight and tourist operation. In 2005, the state will take over. Today, commuter trains of the New Mexico Rail Runner Express use the line." Source: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=530241&nseq=39 |

Thank you guys, for all these great pictures!
Once again it shows that reality is surpassing fiction. It also shows that nothing is wrong with our H0 trains on the layout, everything is possible. |

Kimball, Unfortunately the poster does not note the camera. Looking at the image I suspect it has been sharped and perhaps had the colour adjusted after scanning. The lighting conditions are pretty favourable, in the late 60s it's hard to guess the equipment. I think a lot of it has to do with the more organic look from film images. On those Rio Grande A-A units the imagines were really well scanned too, really gave it a 3D look. -Brandon |

Hi Ak. Yes, interesting photo. I thought at first that the second Lok was perhaps out of service and it was being towed by the first Lok but then I realized that smoke was coming out of the 2nd Lok too. Maybe it is a mountainous area and two loks were needed? Peter.

Can be replicated with Maerklin models 37611/43603/43604: "ATSF Train #26, the Pecos Valley Streamliner observation car (only observation car running on ATSF) taken from cab of F-unit 306 pulling Train #2, the San Franisco Chief entering Clovis, NM on 8-27-1967. Roger Puta photograph" "ATSF 60L or 60A (PA-1) with Train 25, the Pecos Valley Streamliner, at Clovis, NM on August 27, 1967 Train #2, the San Francisco Chief at left. Train 25 taken off 4 days later." "ATSF 2879 a boiler equipped GP7 with Train #26, the Pecos Valley Streamliner about to leave Carlsbad, NM Bally Boynkin, Grorge Gunter & firemen on March 22, 1967" Source: https://www.flickr.com/photos/129679309@N05/22697897226/in/photostream/ Passenger Train 25/26 consist assignment during that period: Source: http://santafe.gmbus.comAddendum 1: Same train (with different photograph) presented in post #251. Addendum 2: Until 1961, another short ATSF streamliner train - train 13/14 - had an observation car. Unfortunately, I could not detect any photographs.
