In a previus post in this forum I show two locomotives that I bought recently https://www.marklin-user...-2016-Edition#post532251Are two 3048 who I bought in very poor condition The 1st is a 3048.2 from 1962 (Box date) The 2nd is a 3048.5 no box no date but the production was from 1965 till 1968 So we are speaking for 50plus old ladies Some of you asked to sow the restoration and the results. So we are here The Original Condition 3048.2 3048.5 Both were not working So I proceed to disasembling the Locos. Inside the situation was not very bad 3048.1 3048.5 The motors were stuck and the problem was on the rotor bearings. The original foam where the oil goes was a hard mud and had block the rotor axles. Very good cleaning of the axles, gears, rotors with isopropyl alcool Reassembling carefully A bit of oil Test run: Running very nice and smooth The 3048.1 version has the hand lever for changing direction You can see how its working The results were very good so far The covers after removing the smoke deflectors cleaned carefully with a lot of warm water and detergent with a brush. Last rinse with distilled water and drying. Photos from the final result will follow Actually the only think that I did was a good service!!!!! I have ordered the E188838 motor and ESU magnets t convert them to digital with two different ways and compare the results. Thanks a lot Best regards Costas Edited by user 25 January 2017 23:18:16(UTC)

Hello Costas, I did a 60904 conversion of similar loco and wrote a small article how I overcame some problems with this conversion. The 3026 ArticleI hope it provides you with some ideas what is required. Edited by user 01 January 2025 05:31:57(UTC)

Thank you Ross for your answer I know your conversion (as all the others that you have publish so far) Is an excellent work, very difficult and complicated, but I don't want to go so far. I want to do something simpler I will publish my try Thanks Costas

Hi
There many ways to convert 3048 to digital from the most elegant to the simplest. Here is how I have done it on several 3048.
Set 60944 - brush plate nr.1 and 5 pol rotor with 7 teeth. I cut off the upper left corner of the brush plate incl. half of the screw hole so the plate fit against the left casing and pins on magnet. There are only one screw hole left at the right bottom. No problem, the forces from the motor are not in that direction so one screw and the pins on the magnet will take care of them.
Separate light and smoke.
I use digital bulb E 610080 and solder a wire to each leg, isolate the soldering and drop it into the old bulb socket, connect to decoder.
Then I solder the output wire I want for the smoke unit to the copper plate/ old socket.
Ready to run.
5 pol motor and perfect performance over many years. Easy and simple.
My 2 cent.
Torstein.

Hi Costas, Glad you have read some of my articles. With the information others have provided you should be able to come up with a simple conversion. Originally Posted by: ktsolias

I've converted the original brush plate (60944) by cutting it off at the left hand top corner, cutting away a section and realigning it by super-gluing it together.
