I want to convert a 3084 Marklin using the ESU 51960 magnet and an mSD3 or mLD3 Marklin decoder because the 60944 motor does not fit to the Loco.

Any experience??

Thanks in advance

Costas

Hi Costas,

Why not use a 60941/60760 DCM type motor kit? It should fit the 3084 fine and work great with the mSD3/mLD3 decoders.

Cheers,
Gordon

The 60944 motor kit is for LFCM motors, the 60941/60760 kits are for DCM motors. You need to determine which motor is in your 3084 before you use one or the other kit.

I've found with the BR50's you need to mount the motor brush plate upside down, as the loco body is quite narrow and can't be mounted on the loco properly if the brushplate is right way up.

At any rate Costas asked about the ESU magnets, AFAIK they work OK. You have to use the loco's original 3 pole armature (anker), but from what I've heard they work OK, although not as good as the 5 pole conversion kits.

Märklin Magazin wrote that MSD/MLD cannot be used with Hamo magnets.
ESU decoders work well with Hamo magnets.
How well do MSD/3 and MLD/3 work with Hamo magnets?

Tom

Sorry to all of you and thanks for your response.
But SORRY the Loco is the 3048 BR 01 and not the 3084 misstypimg

The motor is a LFCM with special cover so the 60944 motor does not fit

Is that because it's an actual fact or because they want you to buy the full motor kits? I haven't used mld3 / msd3 decoders yet, and certainly not with an ESU/Hamo magnet. I have used the decoder from a 60760 kit with an ESU/Hamo magnet and that worked fine.

Yes, true, thanks for clearing that up, what you need then if you would like a five pole motor is:

Märklin E188838, Zubehör-Set Motor kpl.

This will work with most decoders currently available.

Otherwise, the Hamo magnet works well with ESU decoders, and as far as mSD3/ mLD3 decoders go, they might work OK too, I have not yet tried one with the three pole Hamo motor, but may give it try someday to see how it goes.

Thanks for your response and help.

I already order the E188838 motor set and the ESU 51960 field magnet as well

I have actually two 3048 one 3048.2 and one 3048.5 (Are exactly the same inside)

So I will try both and I will compare the results

Of course you will be informed about the progress and the outcome

Thanks again

Costas

The fact is that I can only speculate. Wink
In my experience the ESU decoders have a much better load regulation. I think the Märklin decoders are not capable to deal with the back EMF from motors with Hamo magnets.
