Just to tell you about the Märklin 4081 coach with reversing lights.

I did not know before how these reversing light were operating.

And I discovered a nice thing so simple, and so perfectly made !

So I think it could also interest some people ...
... even if this forum is concentrating such knowledge...

Well the only thing is that I don't know how to unmount the inside of the coach
to replace the lights.

The coach was switching so well that I didn't want to break something...

If some know how to, please don't hesitate to add posts and pictures...

Also,
if someone know differences between other silverfish ahead coaches models (Märklin 4046...),
don't hesitate !

Best regards
Joël

The front wheels of the front bogie are equipped with tyres to avoid sliding.

The front axle of the front bogie is covered with a tube which rubs on it.

The tube moves a lever up when the coach goes forward and down when backward.

Depending the lever position, a switch is activated in the coach
feeding the red or the whight light with the yellow wire from the pickup shoe
of the rear bogie.

A closer view of the inside switch.

Again, if someone know how to unmount it properly without damage, please post....

Best regards
Joël

So the friction keeps the lever held in the correct position...?
How ingenious.

Joel, thanks for the comprehensive review.

Hi Kimball.
Thank you !

And because there is a no neglectable friction,
the silverfish consist must be push or pulled
by a heavy powerful loco for better results !

Hey Joel,

I have those too, they are really awesome. Maybe a bit late, but it have the 4046 car too, the difference is that it doesn t have any switching lights (only white) and thus misses the reversing mechanic. It also makes it easier to pull for leightweight locos. Have you had any success on replacing the lights yet?

I hope it is still of some use to you, late as it is

Kristof

Hi Kristof,

Thank you for these informations,
and as you see, you are not as late as me BigGrin

Well, for the lights, I still didnot try to unmount, not wanting anything to break, as long as it works...

Best Regards
Joël
