Does anyone knows the spare part number of RES 800 SBB green electric locomotive reverse unit?

Hi John,
The RES had a switch with four steps: Forward - Stop with lights on - Backwards - Stop with lights on. The number of the reversing unit was "TT 800 - 5 Gp". As far as I know a five-digit spare-part-number was never issued for that reverse-unit.
That switch was used in a number of locos, also in the TM 800. To cannibalize one from a TM - wreck could be a way to get one.

I have the parts list for the later RET800/3014. I don't know if the RES 800 was the same. Is yours the model with all wheel drive (B-B) or one of the version with two central powered axles (1-B-1)? I think the RES 800 may have been the model with lights on one side only, but I don't know how the motor was arranged.

Hi Mike,
The early RET800 had the four step-reverse-unit like the RES. Locos from 1958 use the 20824, which is used on nearly all locomotives in these days. The 20824 just switches forward-backward.

Markus I always thought it was a three position switch, forward, neutral and reverse. I thought that it switched to the same position between directions. Regards Mike C

Hi Mike, That depends on the point of view. Technically it has eight steps.  On every switch-pulse the slider (11) rotates the drum (8) for 45° and one step. Regards Markus

Thank you for the information. I have never thought it rotates only 45 degrees and eight times that is a full 360 degrees.
I can see in the listing of models many locos, but what about the older DA 800 (3005.1 DB 23 014) and CM 800's (3000.1 DB 89 005 and 3000.2 DB 89 028) models? Also these models have the four position reversing units, but are not listed.

Hi Janne, These locos also have a four-step reversing unit, but another type, which is a little bit smaller (and cheaper) than the other (older) type. Mike C Hi Mike, There is a typing error: The correct number for the modern switch is 208240. Converting it to modern type has the advantage, that the loco does not jump any more while switching. Hi John,
That eBay auction link Mike linked here is from a very good recommended seller. I bought from him some time ago a metal rivet tender for F 800 or HR 800 N. Everything went ok and the shipping cost was cheap. I won yesterday another auction from this seller (RM 800). In this auction was written it has (unfortunately IMO) a newer type reversing unit. That older four position reversing unit can well be from this RM 800. I will probably use one of my older TM 800 technic with this RM 800 as both models have same frame and wheels. Also RSM 800 electric loco uses the same technic. Different siderods only.
