What is the current status of Marklin's FCC compliance for products shipped to and sold in the U.S. Are only newer starter sets sold in the U.S. compliant or do they need adaptors, including with MS2? This is very confusing that you can buy something in the U.S. that is or may not be complaint or need to add a wire dongle to your track. Any FCC FAQ's on this issue or diagrams? There are a couple 103.1 locomotives that can be bought in the U.S., but don't have the certifications. I don't want to lose wi-fi, TV or phone from running a train or cause other problems or do my older sets have the same problem, but there does not seem to be a way of testing that in advance.

It seems that Märklin stopped paying for FCC approval some time ago and new items are no longer certified for FCC compliance.
People in Europe still can use WiFi, TV, and mobile phones, so there is no general problem.
Some FCC dongles are said to inhibit the mfx feedback from loco to controller. So without dongle, the set works as expected (without FCC approval) - with the dongle, it does not operate, but this NOP has FCC approval. |

So I can stop building my Faraday cage and just worry about the Sombertown FCC toy police.
Although I can't imagine that the U.S. sales are so bad that it is not worth filing the EU paperwork for models that are exported. In fact, I had thought US Customs was supposed to bar imports not meeting FCC requirements.

I was really wondering about sales from authorized US dealers who are going through US distribution and warranty would apply.

Warranty is world wide, but it will cost to ship for repair to Germany if bought from a German dealer - as well as shipping directly to Märklin for warranty repair (bypass the dealer). |

It probably works like Australia's system, whereby imports are only banned if the relevant Government Department identifies a problem.. Glenn, Mr Pluta published this figure in 2009 (valid for 2008). I quoted the figures a few weeks ago in a thread here, but cannot find it. See also (post #2): https://www.marklin-user...arklin-future#post265166My figure was wrong: they had a US market share of 1 % in 2008 which means that 2 % of their sales (Märklin, Trix, LGB) went to the USA. I suspect that US sales are mainly LGB, a bit Trix, some Märklin Z and very little Märklin H0. I don't know how meaningful these figures are for 2015, but I don't have newer figures. Obviously their US sales are so small they no longer apply for FCC approval of their H0 locos - this may be different for LGB and Z. |
