Hello, I'm new to Marklin never owned any of their locomotives before. I want to buy this loco here:
Manufacturer: Marklin
Item: 39017
Gauge: HO
With MFX digital sound decoder.
Express Locomotive BR 01 150 DB MHI Wooden Box
I have an NCE Power House Pro 5amp DCC system.
Is this MFX digital decoder compatible with my system? Will all the funcions work?
I want to make sure before I buy this.

Does your controller support the MM protocol? Probably not. Märklin 39017 is a three-rail loco. Trix 22250 is the same model, but as a two-rail version and with NMRA DCC decoder. Märklin are able to put mfx, MM, and DCC into a single decoder. They use this with 1 gauge models and decoder upgrade sets only, but not with H0 gauge models. If you have two-rail track, the Trix loco should work nicely. |

Thanks for all the help..... Yours digital system have only DCC protocol and don´t support mfx/MM protocol. If you shall buy an Märklin train,i suggest you change digital system that supports mfx/MM. If not less in cheaper way...change out Märklins mfx decoder to ESU multiprotocol sound decoder,which supports DCC protocol too. Just in case to remember...you must have 3 rail tracks to use Märklin trains. |

Oh wow, I had no idea the Marklin locomotives were 3 rail, I assumed it was two rail because of the HO scale designation.
I have code 83 track. Will the Trix passenger cars with lights work on my track and system? Part # T23446
I will look into the Trix locomotive then.

Well shoot, they don't have the Trix 22250 in stock.
Will the Trix 22393 have a DCC decoder? They have that one in stock.

One more question. Couplers. Are the couplers that come with the locomotive and passenger cars good? Or is there a Kadee replacement for them?
I prefer using Kadee couplers on all my equipment.

No need to replace them if you buy a complete Trix train. When buying Märklin coaches, ask the seller to swap the wheelsets (wheelsets are normally the only difference between Trix and Märklin coaches - sometimes they have different road numbers and you can buy both to get a longer train). I have no experience with Kadee couplers. Locos and coaches have NEM pockets for couplers and other couplers can be used. I prefer using Kadee couplers on all my equipment. Yes you can use Kadee couples on the Trix wagons and locomotivs. But you must use Kadee couples for NEM pockets. Kadee have 4 of them:short,medium,long and extra long. I recommend you try with short and medium couples. It fits good. |

Märklin coaches (and locos) have wheelsets that are conductive between the two outside rails i.e. they will cause a short circuit if you use them on a 2-rail setup. Generally, 2-rail (i.e. insulated) wheelsets are available for all coaches. |
