"It happened to Jane" (1959) There is a DVD of a 1959 comedy starring Doris Day and Jack Lemon about a conflict between a small town business woman and the fictional Eastern & Portland Railroad (E&P) during the steam to diesel transition. Besides the kitschy main plot, the movie is thematizing the problems of US railroads during the steam to diesel transition period. Train operations are reflected in a realistic manner. Here is the link to pictures comparing a 1959 movie scene with the current situation at the railroad depot of Chester, Connecticut (USA) - the alter ego of the fictional town of Cape Ann, Maine: http://www.flickr.com/ph...chrysler_guy/5015525905/Wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It_Happened_to_JaneMy preferred scene: Edited by user 27 April 2014 22:39:30(UTC)

"Bad Day at Black Rock" (1955) Southern Pacific "Black Widow" F7 #6386 A + B Unit in 1955 Spencer Tracy film. See link to a short Youtube video compilation of train related scenes and pix. MGM made this movie near Lone Pine in the Alabama Hills not far from Death Valley National Park on a Southern Pacific Branch line from Mojave to Lone Pine which was built at the beginning of the 20th century for transporting material for constructing the Los Angeles aqueduct. MGM constructed a small town and the train was "modelled" after the transcontinental Sunset Limited streamliner train. Edited by user 27 April 2014 22:39:05(UTC)

Actually, the entire movie is about a train journey from the east to the west coast of the U.S. of A. The trip starts at the New York Grand Central Station and carries on via Chicago to the Oakland Mole. Edited by user 28 April 2014 18:22:31(UTC)

Transsiberian, one of my favorite train movies.
A good suspense thriller in the Hitchcockian style, Transsiberian is a 2008 Spanish-German-British-Lithuanian film, set on the Trans-Siberian Railway.
It was directed by Brad Anderson and stars Woody Harrelson, Emily Mortimer and Ben Kingsley. Mostly filmed Vilnius, Lithuania, with additional photography in Beijing and Russia.

Hello Marklinists, I'm still here lurking in a dark train tunnel... and still thinking about trains everyday: Recently saw "Cassandra Crossing" which has beautiful sequences of a Swiss electric with odd pairings of aging stars in the 70s with younger ones. Nonetheless very revealing in light of Ebola concerns and the idea of government conspiracies. http://putlocker.is/watc...line-free-putlocker.htmlAlso found this re-mastered version of "The General", a Buster Keaton classic done in sepia. Brilliant shots on the locomotives in movement with authentic railroad equipment. http://viooz.ac/movies/195-the-general-1926.htmlThere are a few Italian movies I want to see but can't seem to find in their entirety: - Stazione Termini (90 min original masterpiece; not awful butchered Selznick version called "Indiscretion of an American wife") - Il Ferroviere (The Railroad Man, Man of Iron) (Pietro Germi - 1955) - Destination Piovarolo 1956 With English subtitles would be handy... ...if you have any leads do let me know. - Mark PS @Alsterstreek We do have a number of train movie threads on the forum. It would be handy if moderators of webmaster could have them grouped somehow. Perhaps in a subfolder? |

Wikipedia has a page for this topic (German): http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eisenbahn_im_FilmThe original titles are also given, so it may be helpful even if you don't speak German. Maybe someone will start an English Wikipedia page some day ... BTW: Recently I watched "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three" and was surprised to hear the German word "Gesundheit" a few times - I was watching the English version. Much better IMHO than "The Taking of Pelham 123". |

Hi all, The recent train movie which I enjoyed was "Unstoppable". I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and esp. Denzel Washington's role. Unstoppable Youtube URL Another remarkable movie which does not feature any trains but the story revolves around constructing a railroad bridge in Tsavo, Kenya - The Ghost and Darkness. Again Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas at their best.. The Ghost and the Darkness There is a Bollywood song called Chaiyya Chaiyya which was shot on a moving train. This train connects two places called Ooty and Coonoor in south India and the scenery is awesome. This song also featured as a title and credit track for the movie "Inside Man". Chaiyya Chaiyya, Dil Se Movie, Music AR RahmanRegards, Madhu

The Railrodder 1965) is a short comedy film starring Buster Keaton, actually a 25-minute comedic travelogue of Canada with an one-man, open-top rail CN maintenance vehicle. The backdrops are inter alia Quebec, Ontario, the Prairies, the Rockies and the West Coast. Alsterstreek attached the following image(s): |

One that comes to mind straight away, the movie of Alistair Maclean's book Breakheart Pass, starring Charles Bronson.
Then of course, with Pink Floyd being my all time favourite group, a train features in the movie adaptation of The Wall, it's in the scene where Pink and his friends go down to the railway tunnel to put some bullets on the rails. Not sure what the loco is though. I assume the same train is used in the scene at the station when the soldiers return from the frontline.
But the main reason for posting on this thread, last night on TV they had a rerun of the 1962 movie The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm, towards the end of the movie when the brothers are travelling to Berlin, the train they travel in is the Adler with it's passenger coaches. The boys and I got quite excited when we saw that, considering my Adler is a fairly recent addition to my collection.

I didn’t worry going trough the entire conversation, but, the movie mentioned at the beginning as ”Black widow” is actually a Spencer Tracy movie named ”Bad day at Black Rock”. A movie I really recommend! 1. Spencer Tracy! 2. Train movie shots! 3. Story!
SEE IT!!!

Not real trains, but real model trains... Old danish classic. Probably known by at least half the people here, but for the ones who don´t know it; A real pearl, especially if you get the dialogue... The film is called "Stoev paa hjernen" (1961). |

Recovering from a pre-Christmas shopping spree I sat down to watch "Terror by Night" starring Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes. It is set on an overnight train from London to Edinburgh. Imagine my surprise when - for their first scheduled stop - they showed this scene: It seems they took the long way! Merry Christmas to you all and fingers crossed for 2022! Cheers, John

My favorites are "La Bete Humaine" and "The Train". But a number of episodes of "Hercule Poirot" and "Inspector Maigret" include train travel and one episode includes a window model train display and an extensive train layout. However if you want to see a strange innovation called a "siphon" which allowed a steam locomotive to resupply itself with water without stopping you need to watch "La Bete Humaine" or "The Human Beast" or "The Human Condition".
