Hello, I have started to assemble sometimes ago the Walthers' kit # 933-2909. I should later post a complete report, but I am facing a little problem at the moment : if I have found some Preiser figures to put inside the diner, I lack of accessories such as dishes, plates, glases, etc. Does someone here have an idea where I can find or scratchbuild those kinds of accessories ? Here are some pictures of the empty diner : Pierre.

I knows there's lots of that sort of stuff in 1:35 scale to accessorize but I don't recall seeing anything in HO 1:87. for glasses, maybe you have some clear pastic spruce from some other model kit - heat it and get it to the right general size for glasses. you can tint it with dye (like rit dye for clothes) in warm water. I suppose theres lots of ways to make plates. if you could find some sort of hollow punch of the right/approximate diameter that would be the easiest way to make a whole mess of dishes or bowls. I think you'll need a clear display case for pie and cake too.

Plates and "stuff " are shapes at that scale. Could you make some shapes with plasticene? Good looking diner!

You could also print out table tops with napkins, plates, forks & so on and glue then on the tables. Only glasses and such are of significant hight and will have to be modelled in 3D. Or, print the plates (with food) on heavy paper and cut out before glueing.
Just a thought... |

Hi
You might try etching techniques for making plates, spoons, forks, knifes etc.
Take a piece of electronic card board with a 50 or 70 micron copper layer, cut it in the shape of the table cloth, paint the plates etc. on the copper side, and etch the card board applying the usual methods when making PCBs (e.g. using india ink). Afterwards, paint the table details in their respective colors.
50 microns times 87 corresponds to prototypical 4.4 mm. Not exactly in scale with the actual hight of a plate, but you'll certainly recognize the profile on the table.
Just an idea...

most diner food is pretty good. you certainly wont find their food delivered in boxes like Mickey D's - I've never seen any that serve on trays like the fast food chains do. many operators take pride in what the offer and serve, and there are a lot that serve much more than burgers or roast beef sandwiches with gravy. there's probably several seated figures that would work well. the idea about printing the tables out with a spread was pretty good, but these places typically also have stacks of porcelain dishes, bowls and cups ready to go. the exteriormight be a good place to try buffed out alclad paint, to get more of the polished stainless gleam, or maybe an applique of "bare-metal foil" - an adhesive backed real metal sheet that is mostly used by some model airplane builders for a really authentic metal look.

Thanks Nev. In the meantime, Preiser has released exactly what I am looking for to complete the diner. At this point, I think the inside of the kit will cost me more than the kit itself ! [}:)] Pierre.
