I must say I was skeptical when it first came on the market but now seeing it in the flesh so to say it looks great. Had to tone the sound down a tad. Runs smooth as silk.

Hi, I thought I'll make a comment about the new crocodile smooth run like silk. It is a bit of irony when Roco locos in the past have been criticised for being plastic but the other great feature of Roco locos always have been the smooth running like silk for many years but nobody had considered this as a plus, suddenly new Märklin locos come onto the market and reading the posts it looks like the noise of Märklin locos from the past must have disturbed a number of people.

John, I must say that I do agree with you in saying my two Roco electric "sound" loco's are really super smooth & very quiet runners. I think my Two Roco loco's are still marginally quieter that the new Twin motor Croc's. But Marklin have definitely addressed the noise problem to a degree but there is still room for improvement in my opinion. The new type slider on this loco helps a lot.

John,
When locos have sound modules it is better they run quiet (both motor and gear).
I also like a lot the metal cogwheels and LFM and DCM motors sound when locos don't have sound modules.
The new crocs are super, the only thing I would like different are the plastic in the walkways and handrails. The metal used in the Ce6/8III in the handrails was just perfect.
Roco is good in many respects too, but as time goes by I am more addicted to Märklin and don't care so much abut other brands :)) I totally respect Roco as they also have great models and they brought to model railroading very interesting solutions.

I agree,
Nothing wrong with Roco. They make great locos and stock, as do other manufacturers.
My collection, however, is more than 90% Marklin, because I grew up with Marklin and they are still my favourite brand. Usually there has to be a very good reason for me to get a loco from someone else when Marklin already have a model. |

Hello, I just got my 37567 today and I agree that it is a great looking Crocodile . Very detailed compared to earlier Märklin Crocodiles. I had also to set sound volume down a bit (255 => 210). I just ran it for a minute and put it in a display case as I don't want store it in it's wooden box. Very good looking model that I want to see daily without unpacking it from it's box. This one is my 13th Crocodile. I have six green, five brown, one white and now this black Crocodile. Five of them are "big" like 36159 brown, 31859 green, two 31860 green and one 31860 white versions. Eight are these correct 1:87 scale "small" Crocodiles. Four brown versions including two 31860, 39561 and 39565. Three green versions including two 3756 (Be 6/8 III and Ce 6/8 III) and one from starter set 29680 = same as 39563. This black Crocodile looks so good that I think I will rearrange all my locos in display cases and put Crocodiles at "spot lights" . I will also run this black version, but not often. My white and green "big" Crocodiles don't see any track time and are only in their display cases. But this black one has full sound and nice details and two motor technic so I know already that I can't resist to take it for a run sometimes . Cheers, Janne |

Ray, my topic was more specific towards the noise level and when I grew up there was no Roco only Märklin and my locos are about 90 % Märklin. regards., John |

Dave, I have altered quite a bit on my older Märklin locos: converted them with a 5 pole motor corrected the brushes shaft added ball bearings both sides on most of my locos used a Roco whisper slider since Märklin altered the studs on the c-track John |

Hello John, Yes those Roco whisper sliders make all the difference. It was actually you John that got me going on Roco. Now I have two in my collection. |

The Roco Whisper slider has solved the noise level with c-tracks, the standard Märklin slider (hole in the middle) made a noise because they've changed the pukos from sideways to longways. Roco sliders come now in most of the different length Märklin has produced John |

Nice and clear shooting than other pictures i ever saw before. Simply one unsatification for me on this new tooling is the uncorrect pantographs. I'm disappointed to see the old and mistaken pantograph mounted on the roof. see the prototype http://4rail.eu/swi/swi_...roco_erstfeld_2002_L.jpg

Hi Shannon, thanks for pointing that out for me. I had not noticed that error till you pointed it out to me. But bearing in mind this loco is a figment of Marklin's imagination I guess anything goes. Personally I think it is stunning in black. Thanks for the link to a picture or the real deal.

Märklin had in their old CCS 800 Crocodile pantographs that looked more like a real thing (I mean only the upper part of it) before year 1951. Those where made between 1947-1950. I actually have two original "old new" spare pantographs type 4.1 that could be used in some of my Crocodiles, but they have flat metal underside and could only be used in the older design Crocodiles. These are to be used without any plastic part under them and I'm not really sure if they even fit these bigger older "3015" design 36159, 31859 or 31860 Crocodiles. I really love the looks of them, at least for their age . Here is a link to some repro type 4.1 pantographs: Märklin type 4.1 repro pantographsRegards, Janne |

Steven, its a good job you ordered one early in the peace as they are going out the door like hot cakes. I think hard to find now & at a premium price. |

..you go to see Steven, the black Crocodile is purely...jubilatoire ! ( Hopping the word "jubilatoire" has the same meaning in English as in French : this kind of feeling when something unusual makes us satisfied- pleased-delighted-cheerful all together !... ...)

A few things that owners of the new stunning Black Krokodil #37567 should be aware of:
1). Firstly I jokingly call these "eyelashes". Under the roof these two silver (metal) components are only held in at two push in type locator points. Keep your hands well away from them so they don't dislodge or get bent & trust me it is easily done. The same would go for the two new brown & green twins #37565
2)There are two grey plastic push in components on front right hand side of each loco located behind the steps. In one of my photos you will notice on one instead of two of these components & the other photo showing other side of the loco you will notice it has two of these components. The point I am making is that they fall off very easily. I found my missing one lying in the box loose.
Moral of the story is watch where you place your fingers when handling these new models please.

Hi All
The two verticle cylinders are indeed very fragile to damage by the leading pony truck pivoting. Mine arrived broken and replacement cylinders are not a replacement spare part. The loco eventually went back to the dealer. With the replacement loco I have taken them out and stored them in the loco box as the loco is run and they will get broken again. The parts can easily be put back on if required.
Cheers Bryan
