Nice Locomotives they have. It seems like it was worth waiting for Märklin and not buying the Roco model.

Thanks for the picture RayF.

New item: 60122 MS 2-Hub for 5 MS2.
With 1 hub you can use 6 MS2 with one track box, with two hubs you can use 10 MS2.

The 37960 seems pretty similar to 37964. Maybe only with a different road number and much better sound.

I don't see the BR18.3 EpII...

have you an idea about the "game mode" : what kind of game ?
I wonder if it will be allowed to retrofit some of our old Locomotives with mfx+ decoders, I have a couple of BR 101 with motorola decoders...
Will it be possible to update the last generation of factory installed decoders with red color PCB to the mfx+ standard ?...may be later ? They probably need time before making mfx+ firmware for many types of locomotives...
(why did they change the color of PCB into red color....if not to differentiate them from other mfx decoders ? )
I like the idea of making intelligent locomotives : this will be the new generation of Smart Loks or Smart Models . Only Marklin can do it : thanks to the fact of managing a proprietary system...and factory installed decoders.
Anyway....ESU, Zimo, now Roco, ...all the digital systems became more and more proprietary systems, less & less compatible with more & more functions working only if we use the complete system

That's missing together with the waggons. I would have bought those, but maybe they will show up later during the year.

Also would have liked to see an unweathered BR 41 with coal-tender and a V 100... But no doubt they will be available sooner or later.

As usual (BigGrin ) there's a bit of disappointment when the wait is over. Would have liked to see some more new waggons and one or two more locos. But there are still plenty of stuff to put on the "to-buy-list" and the Dm3 alone should be enough to make any swede happy! Love

I'm also looking forward to the new form-signals. I wonder if these too are Viessmann-made... Confused

Now it's just one year left to the news for 2014!LOL

So quite a nice catalog! Not a lot of purchases for me this year, but they are exciting ones:

Italian class 94 and freight cars
SBB RE 4/4 LION
Double croc set, but only after I read reviews as there is a lot of "new" going on with them

Depending how cheap they can be had I may also pick up the BLS start set and SBB lichtstal 6 car set/loco to upgrade my RED RE 4/4 without sound

37045 Re 4/4I
43389 Coaches
29486 BLS Re 486 Set

I am very happy about the Re 4/4I in red (37045), but I would love to know what's up with the coach set 43389. The set includes a pilot coach, which is also a nice model, but the Re 4/4I second series was not approved for push-pull operation, only the first series (39420/39421). Additionally, the 2nd class coaches with centre door, of which there are 2 in the set, were also not designed for push-pull operation. To be prototypical, you have to swap out both the lok and the coaches in question. The remaining coaches plus the pilot coach can be used with Re 4/4I First Series or BDe 4/4 (Hag).

One comment that I have seen on other (German) forums is the colour of the pantos, but I believe that they are using the same grey ones that were used for the 37360 Ae 610 and hopefully not the same black ones that were used on the 37044 Re 4/4I.

I will be looking for the pilot coach as a solo item from the set and will make up my own consist for the Re 4/4I.
The BLS Start Set is also of interest, as this lok that goes well with the 2012 47416/47417 RAlpin (Hupac) Set since 36852 Re 485 is no longer available. The Re 486 are most frequently used by the BLS to pull container trains and other unit trains from Germany to Italy. I will probably use it for a container train like the 47081 VOS Logistics set.

Regards

I have Roco model no. 78524 (DM3 3-rail), it does differ slightly in that it has the small center head light at the top of the cab, different road numbers and some of the detailing colours are different. Let's hope one of the experts compare the models and comment.

I may decide to order the EI 12 (NSB) though.

Not sure about the model, if it has the same goods details like Roco Glare

I have Roco model no. 78524 (DM3 3-rail), it does differ slightly in that it has the small center head light at the top of the cab, different road numbers and some of the detailing colours are different. Let's hope one of the experts compare the models and comment.

I may decide to order the EI 12 (NSB) though.

On the Dm3.

The larger head lights, both the top and the lower ones were there from delivery in the 1960-ies. The same goes for cab doors on both sides. The Märklin model is showing a Dm3 from 1970.

The Dm3 engines were modernized from 1979 and continuing a couple of years into the 1980-ies. The Roco models show these later modified engines. The head lights (both top and lower ones) were replaced by the smaller Marshall lights, similar to the SJ or GC class Rc. You can also note that the left cab door (in the driving direction) was removed as well. This was done because the engine driver's seat is on the left side and there were problems not getting the door seals tight enough. This could cause a very cold draught in winter, which isn't too comfortable if the cab temperature is around normal room temperature (+20 C) and the outside temperature is well below -30 C.

As a side comment, the iron ore wagons in sets 46370 and 46371 (or Trix 24237 and 24238) is and older type which is suitable to use with Märklin's Dm3. They could possibly be used also with a brown Roco Dm3, but not with Roco's model of MTAB's class Iore engines.

Link to more information about "Malmbanan" (="Iron ore line").

If I were Roco or Liliput I'd put together a last minute set or two and Market them to Marklin dealers...

There are some perfectly suitable offerings in the new release catalog:

46024 SNCB Europ Coal car set. Such cars likely saw use on trains from Belgium to Italy
47873 FS Type F Freight cars. These typical Italian box cars were standard fare on the Gotthard route for many years and deserve to be included in any mixed goods train that would be heading from north to south or back on the alpine route.
As seen here (1st car): http://www.railpictures....hp?id=290625&nseq=27

It is important to remember that Switzerland's position in the middle of Europe has always contributed to Swiss trains having a very interesting selection of international coaches and cars in addition to domestic Swiss cars. Many of these international trains would contain only international cars (unit trains). Other trains would enter Switzerland, were sorted at the yards at Muttenz and then carried south to Chiasso, where they were again sorted and then forwarded for delivery in Italy.
So a mixed goods train could contain Swiss, Italian, German, Belgian, Dutch, French cars and even the rare Danish car.

The first time that I saw a Crocodile in operation was in 1971-72. The last few operational Crocodiles were still used for rare services and I happened to see one pulling a train of hopper cars north of Zurich. Similar hopper cars, albeit with markings for around 2000 were available from Maerklin under 46331, as seen here:

37347 Re 420 LION.

I have seen some criticism of the model in other forums regarding the headlights. Based on the image in the flyer, the headlights have been upgraded for this new model.
The model also comes with rectangular buffers and air-conditioning panels.
What I have noticed is that the model still comes with traditional SBB BBC pantos when the prototype has been equipped with modern pantos similar to the Re 450/Re 460.
This should not be too difficult to correct using the same pantos that Maerklin has already used for the 37345/29483 Re 421s.
My biggest concern is that image shows what appears to be the DB Indusi magnet underneath the bogie with the Pleitegeier <+> symbol, which is correct for a Re 421 but not for the Re 420. As the image only shows a sample, this detail may be corrected on the final delivery version.
Upgraded loks of this type have been spotted pulling other trains that the Doubledeck S-Bahn Zurich trains, so I may recreate one of those consists.

Maerklin's Re 420 has the running number 420 227-1, not the number of the lok that was recently damaged in a collision, which was 420 230-5.

Brochure with 2013 new items shows on the German Maerklin website, you can flip the pages, handy!

If you fancy tinplate boxcars, like i do,see the new set 47760.
M seems to be putting a new set on the market once a year, which is good.

I like the Swedish Dm3,but am just a bit fearfull of the pricing.

Cheers,
Paul.

Maerklin 37995 Weathered Big Boy a hoax?
The number 37995 was used earlier for a set of two Br 03 steamers, one black and one blue.
