was wondering if anyone had any tips for this as usual?

I was thinking of switching the small rubbing cloth for a q-tip but still soak it with a bit of the alcohol and just take quick swipe at each dirty stud in question .. but then I realize that its of a different metal so thought I would ask here just in case

I just use a high grit sandpaper and very gently give it a quick pass over the studs. For me this has worked the best.

I use a white eraser dabbed in alcohol. I only drag it across the studs, no force.
I have used paper or a fine stone on rusty studs. This is the only place I used sandpaper. It is not recommended to used sandpaper on rails as the scratches ususally will attract dirt.

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the interesting link.

I also wrote some articles on how I tackled this problem which are similar to the links you provided.

Thanks Ross and Kevin,
I've used a similar slider covered with 800 sandpaper.

For track cleaning I have always used a simple abrasive rubber as made by Peco etc. I guess it removes the original protective covering on the M track rails but I have never had any particular problems with this.
