I would like to have a loco in this situation.Anybody know which models marklin produse like 3921.Are the have the 39 number?For example we have a 3939 like 3039 or 3934 like 3034?

Märklin only ever produced two locos in kit form that were marketed to customers. These were the 3921 (same as 3021) and the 3937 (same as 3037).

These were sold in the 1960s style pale blue box designs. Assembled, these locos are quite commonplace, and are generally worth less than the factory-assembled equivalents, probably because customers' assembly skills are suspect! These kits were designed not to require soldering, so that they could be built using just a screwdriver.

Unassembled versions of these two locos are quite rare collectors' items, but they need to be complete and in their original boxes with instructions, etc. Koll's 2012 catalogue lists an assembled 3921 at 40 Euros, but an unassembled kit is 400 Euros.

However, actually Märklin made most of the locos from the 1960s and 1970s in kit form, and these were supplied in plain brown boxes to dealers for them to assemble. There were also Hamo versions of these kits, for 2-rail DC versions of the locos. Koll's lists over 40 of these 39xx kits (plus 17 38xx Hamo kits), dating from 1971 to 1980. Unassembled and complete in the original brown boxes, these are now serious collectors' items, and they are much sought-after. I have quite a few of them, but by no means a complete collection!

The 3904 is one of the 40 or so loco kits that Märklin made in brown boxes, mostly in the 1970s.

Steam loco kits were 3904, 3905, 3907, 3929, 3931, 3932, 3945, 3946, 3947, 3948, 3986, 3994, 3998.

Electric loco kits were 3900, 3901, 3902, 3911, 3912, 3913, 3914, 3915, 3923, 3924, 3934, 3936, 3940, 3951, 3953, 3959.

Diesel loco kits were 3961, 4961, 3962, 4962, 3963, 3967, 3968, 3969, 3973, 3976.

Railcar kit 3976.

Unassembled kits do appear for sale from time to time, but they are quite rare, some of them very rare!

I had a 3021 on my childhood layout and remember seeing a kit one (3921 ?) in Model Crafts and Hobbies in Wellington NZ. Even then I must of been discerning, because I recall being very happy I had a factory built one Huh . I do remember having a couple of wagon kits tho, and enjoyed assembling them Smile

Thanks, Stephen. That was a bargain for somebody at 90 pounds! Koll's lists the 3924 now at 350 Euros.

It wasn't me who bought it - my 3924 came from an auction in Germany a few years ago.

In the pictures the loco shows 3 lighting points at each side.

But I thought the top light only appeared in 1960 on models. Isn't it right?

I have seen an German collector (named Guido) who has this 3921 Kit in Mint condition, unmounted.
Maybe that is the only unmounted one left.

Yes?? Well, I think that one is now on her way to B & W ?? BigGrin

I've read that already built 3921 and 3937 kits, get disassembled again, and sold as an unassembled kit, so be careful with buying.
Mounting always leaves small traces that can be seen.
I've also read that the various 3021 types, almost all also were released as a kit.

I don't know if the 1957 type with "durchbrochenen Lüfter" was also released as a kit, if so, that would be very nice.
