The (Italian)seller says that the set is original and that it is an extremely rare collectors item and well maintained and well functioning.

If that set were original it would be very rare indeed. Notice some of the seller's other items are repainted / restored with replica boxes and this is not noted either.

Nonetheless a beautiful set in RHEINGOLD livery.

Best regards,

Paul

Hi Wolf,

Would it be correct to say that these are original models by Marklin which have been repainted by Ritter in these colours?

Ritter themselves say that Marklin never made these in these colours, and that they are painted by themselves.

I guess they didn't actually build the loco and coaches themselves as replicas, only restored and repainted Marklin models, right?

Careful guys- nowhere does the seller say the train is original, just the box. He also does not say it an extremely rare collectors item anywhere in the auction. I can see how a loose translation could mix this up, but in Italian his description is black and white. (and answers all the questions a potential buyer would have about a known-to-be-repainted- set)

I think it is fairly represented. Yes it could be flagged as a repaint, but one would think that anyone about to spend 1200 euros would know what they are dealing with. Flapper

Cool set though!

Hi Ray,
you are right!
SK 800 (from 1946-1947) as well as coaches 351, 352, 353 and 354 were re-painted by RITTER.
As far as I remember the "Ritter price" was much higher than 1200 € !

That's almost correct. But RITTER doesn't use all original Marklin parts on these recreations. I would say the SK 800 on their site repainted in RHEINGOLD colors is about 90% replica parts either made by RITTER or other "vendors" that RITTER buys from.

The wagons, much cheaper, could be originals, but again replica parts are used like the trucks, etc.

Best,

Paul

You know what might sell these items for a good price? Pictures. Everyone loves good pictures and you know folks sell items for good money that spend a little more up front to show what they are selling with defects and all. Some ads are just too iffy otherwise. Just my .02.

Hello

All those 3 models are no doubtly partly fakes. They have been at least repainted. The presentation is by a matter fact misleading. You can also notice the weak track record of the seller (2)...
