In the German language Bahnforum.ch forum, one member reported that he discovered zinc corrosion on the frame of one of his Roco Re 460 locomotives. The report did not mention which specific model was involved, so I cannot tell you whether it was one of the earlier models (starting in 1992) or one of the latest productions.
As far as I know, the original models were built in Austria. Later productions were built in Slovakia and more recently in Romania.

The author just posted that the affected model was a Re 460 in the yellow Danzas livery. This model was available for the Swiss and International market as 43750 (DC) and 43879 (AC) between 1995 and 1997 according to http://www.bahn.hfkern.de/Roco/SBB_E460.html.

The prototype locomotive in the Danzas livery was repainted in 1997 in colors for Pepsi. Later the lok was repainted in "Mobility" and "SF DRS" colors.
Maerklin and Hag both released models of the "Pepsi" model. Hag may have released the "Mobility" and "SF DRS" liveries.

I will be checking my two Roco Re 460s this weekend. They are both more recent productions (both 43970 model variants) and the frame (chassis) looks a little different than the one shown in the pictures on the site.

I was looking at getting Roco 460s seeing that Marklin is no longer interested in competing in this specific market.

Keep us posted.
Now collecting C-Sine models.

I am assuming that many of us who have Roco Re 460s in our collection will be inspecting them in the near future. A reminder that to remove the shell of the Roco Re 460, you must remove at least one set of buffers and then lift the shell off the frame. Once this is done, the frame can be inspected for possible decay. As I stated above, the model with the reported damage was one of the earlier productions of this model.
Tim, I don't think that you should be concerned if you are ordering any of the more recent loks with built-in (OEM) decoder. If you are ordering an older model from a dealer, you can ask them to inspect it before sending it. If you have any hesitation, you can always decide to go with Hag's more expensive metal models.

Sorry for the late reply. ROCO model with zinc corrosion is art. 43750 mod. 460.018-5 DANZAS. I have the model with zinc corrosion. Very serious problem. Sneaky Sneaky

Your photo shows damage to the plastic shell and skirting but does not show the metal chassis, where zinc corrosion could be seen. There has clearly been some disformation of the plastic shell, but it is hard to tell whether this is the result of internal pressure or from external impact.

If you can remove the shell and provide a photo of the metal chassis underneath as well as photos of the shell from additional angles as well as from the inside, the cause and extent of the damage can be better assessed.

In Italy, your contact for any problems with Roco should be Gieffeci. Even though Roco went through bankruptcy, if you bought the item from an official dealer in Italy who ordered the item through Gieffeci, you may have some recourse through them.

Hi Mike,

I found your post after I discovered my Roco DANZAS has also suffered this fate. As I took it out of its box, after about 10 years, I immediately noticed how tight-fitting in its box the loco was. When removed, the area around buffers at the front and back, were demolished, similar to the model in your pictures. Removing the loco body from the zinc chassis proved to be very difficult, but when I had managed this, I could see the corroded chassis had expanded and locked itself to the loco body. The parts of the chassis surrounding the bogies at each end were already broken off.

I then checked my other Roco 460s released around this time. 43750 being DANZAS. 43751 Miele, 43751 Swisspool, 43753 Milch & 43756 Ciba were all in good condition.

I have posted a few pictures of the culprit in my album named - Roco 43750 SBB 460 018-5 DANZAS

Sorry to hear.

I have two Roco Re 460, a red one and the Blue Re 460 "Swisspool". I will have to keep an eye on them.
The red one was one of the earlier models (43970) and the Swisspool one was one of the special edition models from Roco Switzerland in the early 2000s.
