Does this mean the minimum advertised discount of 10% is no longer valid?? It is about a 22% discount on the 37986 and a 27% discount on the 37160 ...
I have never bought from "across the pond" ... can someone tell me if they remove VAT when selling to the US??
Robert
G'day Robert,
I do most of my shopping from them. I thoroughly recommend them
If you wish to purchase from them, become a member, login and then place your order. When you are finished go to check out and you will find that they deduct the VAT and charge the required postage fee - none of this €39 basic postage. Also no extra % charges for who knows what.
You can pay by credit card or paypal (through your credit card). I usually pay by paypal and have piece of mind.
You will also get bonus points that you can then use on your next purchase. The bonus points (in Euros) is quite handy.
Delivery to Australia is very prompt, can't say what it would be like to the US.
As long as we keep orders under $A1k, we don't attract custom duty here in Australia. Don't know what the rules are in the US.
If you can't find the item , then they don't have it in stock - as simple as that
If it's on their website, but not in stock they will order it in for you and keep you updated via email. If they can't get it or it will take to long they will again notify and give you the option to cancel the order. Very civilised
Give them a try, you might be pleasantly surprised - and, no, I don't have shares in their company

Thanks for the reply Dusan,
I may have to give them a try.
I tend to be very loyal to my local dealer. We are good friends and I tend to buy my new items from him. I also having been doing LGB repairs fro him for the last 15 years or so. Just beginning to look at simple Marklin repairs. I have also built a couple of simple layouts for some customers (different scales) and we are talking about doing more of them. And when items are available in limited quantities, like this past years UP F7, Wabash, 3 loco Bavarian set, and the US freight car set, I usually have first shot at them.
That having been said, I am concerned about how Walthers sets the retail prices here in the US. When I look at the Marklin retail prices in euros , subtract the VAT, and do a conversion, the Walthers retail prices just seem too high. Last year they seemed to be about 150% of the euro retail price (if an item was 600 euro, Walthers had the retail price at around $900, my thinking is that it should be closer to $650) I know they have shipping costs and overhead, but they do carry a lot of different lines to prorate the overhead. Plus, as a distributor supposedly serving the North American dealers, I would think they would get a decent discount from Marklin. Which brings up an interesting question ... are there any other Marklin distributors in the world or does everyone else buy direct from Marklin?
I currently am waiting to see what Walthers retail prices are this year. When I saw that web sight and did a conversion after taking off the VAT, even adding shipping made it a great price for those new items. Hopefully Walthers will have some reasonable retail prices this year (BTW, my dealer does discount from those retail prices) otherwise I think I am going to send out some letters to Walthers and Marklin ... as if that will do any good!! LOL!!
Thanks again!!
Robert

Prices are so absurd and outrageous
It has the same technical standard with a sound decoder and the only different is the color design Rc 37418 with target price € 279,95.
In Germany € 210 and the local webshop in Sweden € 267, then we have the traders that made ther own two model later this year will charge € 324 each
It is a profit of € 114

I've seen the 37418 priced at SEK 2,450:-, depending on what exchange rate to be used, that falls between € 245:- and € 275:-.
I agree that the two Swedish "specials" 37410 and 37411, priced at SEK 2.995:- are a bit high, on the other hand it is a short series and the tool costs for each of them need to be covered, and when dividing that between fewer models that can only go in one direction.

I would say that Märklin is involved to put their dealers out of business by letting someone make small series

Hello Forum
Please forgive my ignorance, but why do we need to guess the new products when Marklin have a catalogue published and available to the public anually? I have purchased the latest catalogue and I'm hoping that everything for the new year would be in it.
Your response would be appreciated.
Thanks and regards.

The catalogue 2011/2012 contains all items announced in 2011.
The catalogue 2012/2013 will contain all items announced in 2012.
The new items brochure published last week/this week (192 pages IIRC) contains mostly items you will not find in the 2011/2012 catalogue.

"Yearbook 2011" would be a better name IMHO.
They need a catalogue in November that shows the items available for Christmas.
It's a no-win situation. Now the 2011/2012 includes the 2011 trade fair new items, but some of them may already be sold out while others will come after Xmas.
If they included the 2012 trade fair new items in it, people will see items what will come for Xmas 2012 or even in 2013. So either way there will be some disappointment - cannot avoid that with an annual catalogue.
I hope you're not too disappointed. A catalogue is a good reference for all the track pieces, spare parts, &c.
The 2012 new items brochure comes for free (also available as PDF for free download).
Catalogues are sold only, no free PDFs.
Regards
Tom

There is few such as 2012 items 37012 in the 2011/12 catalogue.

I was really keen on the 37811 new BR50. Then I realised that unlike the 37810 model, it does not have sound:(
How frustrating.

Buy both, swap covers, and sell the one without sound.

I could do that. Or I am thinking I can just buy the trix version and just install a sound decoder.
Alternatively I could find someone who wants the 37810 version without sound and so a swap as you suggest.

!!! I like the new items for the Netherlands. I just ordered the full-sound DDM-set (with 1700-locomotive) and the NS 1201 (special edition).

Wow, Baltimore and Ohio F7, very tempting. The CSX tracks that were once the B&O are not too far from me.
Is this the first GG1 in HO from Marklin?

Strange choice! Will they do one with and one without smoke deflectors?
It would make more sense to do one era II and one era III, I think.

Cheap year for me - thankfully
I do wonder though, will we ever see the extension car with red tail lights (to the 43290 "Mercur" car set) that "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named" promised would come ...

I have preordered 37994 and I'm getting 60215 later this month. I hope Euro Rail Hobbies still has the version I'm looking for! I'll email them soon.
There are a few other New Items that interest me, however I have promised myself that this year I'll only get two Märklin items. Last year I spent too much, although it was worth it!
I am sure that 37994 and 60215 will be worth it. And eventually I'll get a router and I'll set up 60215 for wireless operation and the Mobile Station App.
If I see anything out there that will replace the Big Boy, I'll let you guys know. However I think this is my decision for now.
Cheers!
Tadzio.
Permanent C-Track Layout controlled with 60215 CS2 with version 1 software. Locos and rolling stock from Eras II-IV.

What is this about? I own this set and actually installed some 3rd party rear tail lanterns to the set... looks/works great. They were Viessman lanterns iirc.

When that set was released "somebody" (thinking he had unsurpassed inside knowledge) mentioned that M would soon come with an extra car w. tail lights to the set. I guess his inside knowledge was not all it was made up to be...

Old news, but I am disappointed that the 45098 Goggomobil transport set is listed around $250 US, even though most dealers are showing internet prices closer to $200. As others have suggested, it seems too expensive for this set. I will probably have to skip this one...

When will be available the summer new items 2012 list?
Ep. III (My layout is set in 1962).
I collect mainly DSB, DB and SBB but I'm quite... Open minded.
I'm quite a big collector of NOHAB lok :)

I just hope that Marklin remember to put all the screws in the right places this time, instead of leaving them floating around the box for the end user to put in!
Come on, David, we know you like a bit of a challenge!
Marklin don't want to make it too easy for us...
Yup, always loved my Junior Engineer and Meccano sets when I was a kid (along with Marklin as well).
Guess I'll find out tomorrow, BB is due to arrive then!
