 Hi, I bought a brand new Z scale 88190 Santa Fe train a few weeks ago. http://www.maerklin.com/...Fdiesel_locomotives.htmlBut only one motor was running, so it was back to the shop. Today I picked it up after being repaired, and now both motors are running. But they don't run equally. The motor in one end of the train starts running as soon as I give it just a little power, but the other motor dosn't start until I reach about 100-120 (out of 200) on the controller. And this also means, the train dosn't start moving, until I reach about 120. It's always the same motor that starts late, no matter what direction I drive. I this a fail or a feature? Is a A-B-A design supposed to work like this? And I can only put about 5 cars on it, then it barely drives anymore, unless I give it full power. So I'm feeling that all my 20-25 years old trains, that I inherited from my grandfather, runs much better than this brand new one that I bought.

Hi!
I have the same problem with my 1:87 Thalys: both motors are running at different speeds, so one loco always has slipping wheels and will brake the other loco instead of working together.
The train worked at first, but failed recently.
I don't have much experience with Z gauge, but both A and B units should have the same motor and should start running at the same voltage.
You can try the typical maintenance tasks to see if that helps (oiling gears, cleaning collectors, maybe reducing the pressure of brushes on the motor of the "late starter") and return it to Märklin as a last resort.

I have the Alaska RR A-B-A unit which was released several years ago. Do you know which motor the dealer repaired? If it is the repaired motor that is delayed, it may need a little break in period. Otherwise, lubricate that motor a little. My last suggestion is check out www.zcentralstation.com which is an exclusive Z scale form here in the US. There are a lot of world wide members and you should get a reliable answer. I'm also on that form for about 8 years. Rob |
