Hello All,
I overfilled my Bigboy with smoke fluid now it has stopped smoking. What can I do to fix the seuthes?
Thanks

Try draining some of the fluid out of the smoke units, to about half full - use a syringe if you have one (a syringe should have come with the seuthe units).

After you drain it out don't know why there would be a problem with them. Maybe a piece of dirt lodged in the tube?? Or maybe some fluid got down between the tube shell and loc shell breaking the ground connection. Or some fluid got onto the contact tab (hot wire contact)?? Just maybe some things to check.

Hi, I have done this before though not with a big boy. I usually turn the Lok upside down over a paper towel while holding it tightly with two hands giving it a slight shake. Generally 2 or 3 drops will come out. PeterSmile

I do this all the time (having the steady hand of a maracas player)LOL LOL

All I do is get the corner of my hankie and dip it into the overfill. The hankie sucks up the fluid and, voila, she starts smoking.Flapper Flapper Flapper

Of course it helps if you have to do it as soon as you have overfilled it.

Has always worked for meLaugh Laugh Laugh

Hi Nelson,all,
The folks have given you good advise, try those first.Next time,...double check that the smoke generator is seated properly. Then add a drop or two of smoke fluid and then test.IMHO.

If it's really bad, I pull out the entire smoke unit, receptacle and all, clean as described above with cloth/cotton swap, dab with lighter fluid to clean all surfaces, including those that may have spilled on the loco chassis below ...

Then, blow dry all parts with the hair dryer (if you can wrestle it from the FD, that is ... hmmm ;)
As I have no hair left to speak of, the above machine tool specializes in this smoke stack purpose exclusively ^^. ThumpUp

Thanks to all,
I used a syringe and withdrew as much as I could. I let it sit for about an hour it is now working properly.
By the way what is the correct amount to use?
Thanks Again

Obviously "not too much", and that is a relative issue... BigGrin

I'd say to be restrictive, and top up when needed after a few minutes.

I myself had the habit of filling up too much, kind a like one 3rd full or so, and the only result I got was boiling oil that splattered over the loco body.
When enough oil had been lost, it usually started to smoke... But waste of smoke oil indeed...

Am a bit reluctant myself to smoke units nowadays, they do draw extra current which can be used elsewhere...
It's a very nice show feature, though...

Hi!

Märklin write "6 drops" - a piece of information that left me clueless.

Seuthe write "0.2 ml" - easy to do if you ever bought a Seuthe set and use the syringe that comes with it (or any other small syringe).

Tom
