I wonder what will be different for this model from all the other Big Boy models, apart from road number.
First Big Boy with new, improved decoder (non-ESU decoder with improved profit margin).
Maybe this one comes with white LEDs only (no more yellow as with 37993).

Like the BR 94.
Maybe a new BR 50 as well.

I find it difficult to believe that there will be 6 new 39xxxx series products with SoftDrive C Sine.
Märklin has gone to a lot of trouble over the past couple of years to ditch this wonderful system in favour of el-cheapo disposable motors.

The SNCF/ SNCB CC 40100s would surely be just as easy to re-motor in the same was as the E10s and Re 4/4 I ?

Of course, not complaining if it is all true.

I also think it is odd not to see another retro model like 30210 and 30050, and if none then why the tinplate SNCB NMBS coach pack.

Dunno....time will tell.

The announced Rc3 37418 is the modell from Märklin that is sold worldwide. The other two 37410 and 37411 are only sold by Tåg och Hobby in Luleå. Thats why they are so expensive, over 300 Euro's, the street price of normal Rc's are around 250 Euro's

I would like Märklin to make new tooling for the Rc. Haven't bought a Rc from Märklin in 5 years. the last one was the 37414 2x Rc4 GC.

Oh naughty Maerklin, I am so disappointed with you!!

Careful reading and translating of the brochure reveals that although there are indeed 6 39xxxx series locos, including the Senator, none, I repeat NONE of them have a Softdrive Sinus Motor. How misleading, have they run out of the 37xxxx number scheme, or is the intention to mislead?

Running a quick search on the entire new items catalog for "Softdrive" I got only one match related to item 26591 (SBB electric locomotive Serie Ce 6/8 III)...

Disappointing for an era II collector like me. I already have the BR96 and the BR39 in DRG livery. Luckily the 46401 set from last year is not yet out so I have something to look forward to.

I guess the summer new items or autumn new items will have to bring rescue.

Or I have to switch to Rivarossi (K5 railgun, BR61 002) or Liliput (BR05, U-boot transport, ...) to get something nice.

Märklin news

There are 2 new exlusive models of the swedish RC-loks due to the popularity of the 30430. And accoording to the newsletter there will be cars and other types of locomotives of swedish prototype.

Madness!!!
332 euro for an plastic locomotiv with one soundfunction... ThumbDown

According to what I´ve heard the locos will be equipped with full sound functions. And the RC-locos have 2 sound functions.

Rc locomotivs has one soundfunction while the second is hidden function which you must have an CS2 to get it.
There has been never fully functions at Rc locomotivs!

No, I didt say that. But the new RC will have full sound and functions! But no red tail light...

Well, I could pick away at the selection all night.

First the disappointment is no new retro locomotives like 30210 and 30050, this is good for my wallet, but I would have liked to see the series continue. The 40690 SNCB NMBS Tin Plate coach set is noce, but it is 1980s livery and appears to have no obvious loco to pull it??

Moving on to happier times:-

The 37994 Big Boy is nicely different at the front end with the smoke deflectors, never seen one in this condition before, thoug I expect it to have a price of at least 800 Euros. It could be my third Big Boy though......

I am drawn to the 50 Years of the Modern Rheingold items 37106, 43873 and 43883. Built in lighting on the coaches..mmmm. Probably 200 euros a set then.

Fans of Ian's Esslingen locomotive set may be drawn to the similar 26472, very similar loco but with a different wheel arrangement.

Lot's more will appeal to other I am sure.

Best Regards
Ashley

The BR212 is in fact the V100 as from the late sixties, the 37000 has sound.
Surely M will bring out the V100 version later on.

Looking through the new items leaflet again, I quite like the agricultural train, with the V80. The V80 is on my wishlist, and the set has an interesting selection of wagons.

Pity about the further move away from SDS motors. I guess Marklin decided it was an evolutionary dead end, like the old 5-star analogue motors, or the delta system. Still, there's nothing wrong with Maxon and Faulhaber motors. They are good quality products and are certainly not cheap. Before they even thought about SDS Marklin were already fitting these in their high end locos, like the Br18.1, Br55, and Br59.

I was hoping to have an affordable year. Looks like I will have to rob a few more banks...

37462 Re 460 (2008-2010)
37324 Re 6/6 11675 "Gelterkinden" (2006)
43671 SBB EC Coach Set 2010

I would have preferred if the Re 6/6 would have been for the period 1995-2000 so that it could be used with passenger or freight trains. By dating it for 2006, the lok would almost exclusively be run with freight trains. This leaves only the original lok from the 37320 Set as for the period when these monster locomotives were used to pull passenger trains. Still, I think that this green Re 6/6 will look amazing pulling my Wascosa tank cars (46556) or my Transcereales Hopper Train (46321/46322/46342/46343).

The Re 460 is going to be a welcome addition. I was planning on getting one without the "2000" markings. The LED lights are a bonus. This one will go with my Roco EWIV or IC 2000 push pull consists.

The 43671 Set is nice. While I normally prefer 1/87 to 1/100, I have got to give credit to Maerklin for being the first to announce these models. Roco really missed the boat on this one.
These coaches can be found in Switzerland, but also in Germany, Italy. For the EC Bavaria, replace the Panorama coach with a 4368 and use either the 37345 or the lok from the 29483 Start Set. For the EC Raetia, use a Re 4/4II (37356) or the new Re 460 (37462) for the Basel-Chur-Basel segment and a DBAG BR 101 or 120 for the Basel-Emmerich-Basel segment. For a Zuerich-Stuttgart or Milano-Zuerich-Stuttgart EC, replace the Panorama coach with a 4368 or the Cisalpino Apm from the 26544 Set and use a Re 4/4II, Re 460 or BR 120 for lok, depending on country you are modelling.

I am also considering the 36607 Railpool/SBB Cargo lok, but not sure if these are used only in Germany/Belgium/Holland or whether they also come into Switzerland.

A little disappointed that Maerklin has yet to deliver a TXL or other MRCE Taurus, 189 or 185 with MS packet which could be used in Switzerland.

Liliput has some interesting Swiss new items and I am still waiting for LSM and ACME.

Regards

I like the 45098 auto transport set. I've never seen one with the autos mounted transvere to the flatcar. 4 flatcars with autos, bound to be expensive...at least for me. The BR 94.5 look nice as well, but I have a weakness for small steamer tanks. A couple of nice era III freight sets. Maybe able to build up some really long/realistic consists. Seems like a pretty good year to me!

I also consider a pity that Märklin is not using the Soft Drive as a standard motor... Sinus Soft Drive and Faulhaber are my favorites!
The BR96 model seems it will be always as it is... but I think it needs an upgrade in the motor and a real prototypical cabin interior.
I think (as I don't know German language may be I missed it) there is no Märklin steam locomotive with interior cabin light... (like the Brawas) Is it that difficult?
Anyway I think that the 2012 novelties are very nice and appealing.

Best regards,
Miguel

Overall, I was a little surprised not to see the Eurofima (A9 and B11) models in 1/93, as well as the SBB WRm in red (1/93). I was also expecting to see the DB Avmz, Apmz and Bm models (1/93) in various IC liveries. I was also expecting to see a few new SBB light steel coaches (combined 1st/2nd "AB" and ABt (Pilot coach) with the original SBB + CFF markings. I was also surprised that there were no FS offerings. I have been waiting for the Eurofima (1/100) in orange since the 1980s.

I also noted that the Makies Set with Diesel shunter and 3 cars seems to have the same lok and car numbers as the original set from a decade ago. It would be nice to see the other road numbers. Even the separate car set released a few years after the original set had a duplicate car number. I hope that Maerklin does see to this.

I liked the idea of the BR 403. Somehow, the photos in the brochure leave me apprehensive. The Gottardo model was pictured without the moving skirts. I think that I will wait to see more details before I make any commitment to this model.

I was also hoping to see a SBB Re 4/4I (2nd series) in red, a Re 420 (Re 4/4II) in Cargo livery (with normal Swiss pantos and handrails) as used in Switzerland or a Re 430 (Re 4/4III) (either Cargo or red) as used on the Gotthard route. I already mentioned that I was looking for a Re 6/6 for the period 1995-2000 for passenger traffic. Some may still be looking for a 6 coach version of the TEE Gottardo.

The SNCB tin plate couchette coaches will probably do well. These coaches did also travel to Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy, so they can go with quite a few loks other than the SNCB ones.

Now that Maerklin has released a new model of the TEE Rheingold in original blue/ivory livery, hopefully they will follow with a green Re 4/4I with TEE symbols for the Swiss part of the route.
If not, you may be able to take the 37044 and apply the TEE crests which are available from Hag as a spare part.

Notwithstanding the aforementioned comments, I am generally happy with the announced items.

Regards

Mike C

A new br50, a new br 94,5, a new VT75.9 and a new V100 (br212) with sound and telex are the neuheiten.
And a display with wagons with connect lights.

For the rest a lot of modells with a new engine and a lot of modells now with full sound.
This is a very good program in time of crisis.

@ all,

No new trains for moi as (mentioned previously) but I did get nervous when the Swiss pages were introduced with a Krok
but couldn't find one anywhereCrying Crying .

I do however like and will get the 42041 KPEV Coach set and the US freight offerings, I also like Blue Arrow rail car.

Jeremy.

ps. I don't have any Cargo trains and rather like the SBB Cargo offeringScared Scared .j.

Overall a crackin' good catalogue! Really some nice stuff!

I'm really impressed with the new steam equipment Marklin has rolled out the past few years. Also, how cool is that agricultural V80 set, especially considering it should come in at a low price BigGrin

Only complaint is the US car sets. I like the cars individually, but they are hard to believe as sets. Some of those road names would never have seen each other in their operational lives, and definately wouldn't have been tugged together by a big boy. They look great, but US modellers tend to be picky and may shy away or break up sets for this reason.

As for the purchases, since I'm doing Swiss and trying to avoid repaints I can say the only outright buys are the following:
37642 Cl 460
43671 Eurocity car set
47416 Rollande Landstrasse
47417 Rollande add on car

I have the existing makies gravel set, blue arrow, SOB kof and a brown croc. Price depending, I may sell one or another to upgrade to telex on the kof, sound on the blue arrow etc...

nice work M*!

Will preorder:
37994 Big Boy 799,95

Hi John. Well, mixing railroads when it comes to american freight isn't my problem, anyway - it's rather the stuff they are made from. When I started with marklins many decades back their box cars were made from tinplate, only. Then came those cars from the plastic era - way too light and fragile for me - so I gave all of 'em to our Grandkids, recently. Never to regret. Best of all, last year I've been able to stock up with tinplate set #45644 - thus my whole collection of freight is tinplate only, again. That's about it ... ThumpUp

Those still expecting SDS can also get one in the krok set...

I'll normally expect to bag at least two SDS every year so eBay for second hand models would be a great source for me.
Now collecting C-Sine models.

These items are on my wishlist:

- VT 75: I have already placed my order for the sound version, as the prototype ran on many brach lines in this region.
- SNCB tin-plate cars: this is a new version of these cars, not produced by Märklin before.
- E 10.12 Rheingold: it will be a nice addition to the Trix set with 1:100 cars I already have (in the set, there is a E 10.12 Bügelfalte), however, unfortunately the Märklin loco is a MHI item, so dealers will stick to RRP. So I'm going to buy the Trix version, and convert it to AC with a good ESU decoder. It has no sound funktions - sound is a nice feature for diesels and steamers, but I don't really need it for electrics.

Florian

The "bloody" thing about the list is that the BR50 with Sound (37810) is a 1965 version with my preferred Witte deflector,
whilst the el-cheapo no-sound BR50 (37811) comes with large Wagners.

I'd rather get a cheaper no-sound model, but a Witte Sound model makes a tough choice.

Not sure if I want to order a 37994 Big Boy, now that it comes with its own smoke deflectors...(unlike previous models)

Looking at the 2012 catalog, I'm sure glad that I've collected every single Marklin steamer model with SDS.
Now collecting C-Sine models.

I think I prefer the BB without the smoke deflectors, but this model seems to be subtly different from the others so I might consider it.
