Hello, I am a professional model train layout builder here in Northern California.
I build mostly 0 gauge layouts.
I just started building an HO Marklin train layout for a customer who has a small number of Marklin engines and other equipment.
I have one of his engines that needs traction tires and a main truck side frame that is missing. It is a light blue with silver striping and a silver cab roof, small diesel type engine. Need part numbers if available.
I cannot find any numbers on the engine. The wheels are about 9/16th at the flange and about 15/32nds at the tire rim.

Any help at all is much appreciated.

Regards to all
Don

Hi Don:

Welcome to the forum. Do you have a couple pictures of the engine you are talking about?

Chris

P.S. I live in the Northbay and am in Sacramento often. A shop in Roseville that might be able to help with parts is Railroad Hobbies.

Another question if I may:

What is the maximum grade a Marklin train with traction tires can handle?

daylightdon,

Welcome to the forum !

Like Chris wrote, pix would be handy plz ^^

Also, max grade is about 3 to 5 % tops .. depends what you are pulling, and with what loco.

What you have is probably a DHG 500 (Märklin ref# 3078);
UserPostedImage
Or here; Märklin Database

This one will climb 10% gradients with a couple of metal waggons with no problem!
A quick search on internet says traction tires should be ref# 7154 from M.

For the truck side frame, it might be cheaper scavenging some poor loco off Ebay...

M* made this model with 2 and with 1 traction tyre.

I would stay below 5% gradients anyway.

The left truck part (#4) is available, the right part (#5) is not in stock.

Hi Tom, Thanks so much for your reply and helpful information. Max grade on any layout we build is 3% regardless of gauge.

It turns out the left side is what is needed. (That is if the long end is the front of the engine??), I will try to order through my local dealer.

Is is possible to attach images to this forum? I have attached a copy of the layout we designed for this customer. The green track is Marklin HO.

Welcome to the forum

Thanks for layout picture.

One thing I would like to mention: the 2 loops on either side (black) why not add a couple curved turnouts on each loop, this will give you an independent flow of traffic for the inside and outside track and most probably more options.
Layout plan looks great.

Thanks John, We may well do that down the road a bit, but for right now my customer just wants to get things going. I'm also building (Assembling), a "G" gauge railroad that will be overhead in this 14.5 X 19 foot room. It will be truly a "MULTI-GAUGE" Train room. (I WILL NOT DO "Z" Gauge!!!)
We are fairly adept at changing, re-doing, re-working, adding in more track and scenery. It's the nature of model railroading.
The (Black) track at the top will be about 5 inches above the (Green), track which is HO. The (Black) track closest to the edge of the benchwork in front of the HO will be hidden or tunneled.
I will be posting progress photos in the coming weeks and months.

It is indeed possible to attach images, in fact attached image files will show as images in the forum if they are about max 500-550kB in size - which is more than enough for a good quality 1024x768 pixel jpeg image. If they are way to big, as your attachment, they will show up as a downloadable attachment link instead.

Hope this helps.
