Dear Friends I have found a trix ALCO PA-1 double loco set and I am seriously considering purchasing it.... I am waiting for encouragement from those who have similar marklin ALCO PA-1s.. My impression is that these are one of the best US locos doen by Marklin/Trix on par with the big boy and the GG-1...I have these two and I am very impressed... My finger is hovering on the click button...What do you think...Buy? http://www.trix.de/produ...05&picname=22805.jpg |

I have the M* version of the loco but I don't have the dummy. It looks really nice and sounds nice (mine has FX. Not sure if there is an MFX version with more functions). It is big and heavy. Only thing negative I can say about it is that it struggles a little while climbing up my slope. But I know that I have some oil residue on the tracks which I am sure is not helping.
Go for it. |

Go for it. .....I don't think that there are "dummy" PA 1 units.....are you sure ? I only know double units , all motorized (double motorization). I love this Marklin model: heavy & powerful.

I used the wrong terminology here. I meant double unit. I didn't know that the second unit was also motorized. |

I have the Märklin 37610 / 39610 double units. They are fantastic, strong with a motor in each unit and really cool sounds. My units do not look at all like it is straining on any of the inclines on the layout. Mine also does not seem to mind dirty track so much. |

They don´t seem to struggle on inclines. I also have the Märklin 37610/49610 double unit. I haven´t tried yet, but I imagine they'll pull almost everything you put after it. Congrats George! I'd be surprised if you regret buying the units. I guess the Trix version is identical to the Märklin units. I also see that Märklin is going to release the Wabash with the PA-1 this month!! I hope I get number 0001 but I don´t think I will get that low number although I ordered it as soon as I heard of it in this fantastic forum. |

I am waiting patiently to see how the “Wabash” single header is going to perform, compared to the double header UP PA1 (37610.....combo). |

I actually did a test with the 6 cars from 26600 CZ + the extra car 43614. The single loco without 49610 had no problems at all pulling the consist. But maybe I´ve got mine from a good batch. |

I dont know the exact specifics for TRIX version. But this goes for Marklin version: 37610 Union Pacific, FX decoder. 49610 is the booster-unit. 37611 Santa Fe, FX decoder. 49611 is the booster-unit. 37612 Rio Grande double-unit. MFX decoder. 37613 Southern Pacific double-unit. MFX decoder. NOTE THIS! When locomotives with FX decoder is put together as a pair, 37610/49610 or 37611/49611, there will be NOICE from the booster-unit. This noice sounds like an extreme oildry electric motor, but thats not the case. Why this noice appears i dont know, but there was speculations about the decoder. I dont think the MFX-versions got this noice. Otherwise, this is real nice models with metalbody and heavy weight (Edit. The MFX versions got way better soundquality) |

There was also the 2-Tone Grey New York Central PA-1 produced for 2 starter sets:- 29570 - FX Decoder with Sound 29575 - MFX Decoder with Sound (Same running no. as 29570).
I have the original combi of 37610 and 49610 and I have no unusual noise when running them, so it may depend on which production batch you have.

@ Ashley. Do you always has the motorsound on at full volume? I mean, its with all sound OFF you really hear the noice. |

The axles and the motor bearings were recently oiled. What is the solution; to replace the decoder with a new generation Loksound 4? This is a fairly expensive solution! |

@ Marius. I dont know the right solution to this problem. I have been very bored and disappointed on the noice. But my own and absolutely cheapest solution is trying to IGNORE it and drive the loco anyway.. |

I have the 37611+49611 combo, thanks to a "special" from Marklin store in USA four years ago (I think I paid less than $ 400 for the two). I like this loco very much. Unfortunately, did not 'log' that many miles (or meters?) on the track since I am still working on my lay-out. Did not experience any problem when I ran it.. sound is very good.
Since, I went on a rampage and got, in the same Santa Fe livery, an F7 A-B-A "package" (33622 + 4063 + 40622) and also the streamlined coaches
43601 Streamliner Car 43602 Streamilner Sleeper 43603 Streamliner Baggage 43604 Streamliner Observation 43614 Streamliner Vista Dome
Also have two sets of the boxcars 45651
That's a lot of Americana for a Swiss modern era modeller!

Hi, How did you connect both units to the single ESU decoder? Thanks! |
