Today I received my CS2 60214 and PSU 60061 split from one of the Mega Starter Sets.
Just for info mine reports the following details:
Central Station 60214
Software Version 1.3.0 (1)
Hardware Version 3.6
Serial No. 16XXX
So I guess this is the latest hardware version, whatever that may mean, and I need to do an update to the system software, which may mean that it now forgets the route sometimes....Happy days!!
But, seriously, my initial impressions are very favourable. The quality of the colour screen exceeded my expectations. I love the shutdown sequence (It shows a loco outside a roundhouse, then when complete the roundhouse doors are shown all closed! Love it!

I received a new GFP (1.36) version today througe cable internet update, it still shows 1.4.0(1)
BETA TEST-GUI version 1.4.5 build 1, GFP 1.36 (beta test in November 2010)
Improved performance in S88 feedback
adjustable clock for reading of the S88
no impairment of the feedback provided by internal memory operations
new S88 event interface for PC connection
CAN documentation CS2 Web Server available
V1.36
Bug Fix: Support for the current memory chips of the GFP
An adjustable power output of the bridge driver to adapt to the used transformer. But this is not yet active, as the counterpart in the GUI is still missing
A small review of the Abschaltmeldung in CFP. It could happen that they lost after all (not sent). This seems to be fixed now finally
HW 3.6 NOR flash from 200nm to 110nm technology changed (the shrink), otherwise no change
HW 3.5 Here, a PCB without optimization changes are made in the underlying schematic
HW 3.4 Here are EMC improvements and optimizations in the field of power supply, carried out the display and the touch control
HW 3.1 First version with standard delivery of the CS2
V1.5 BugFix: Reset solenoid protocol when upgrading to MM and save
***
Could it possibly going to start using the TrainController with feedback

While this is out for S88 polling, the intriguing bit in all of this is actually the comment that implies the feedback is no longer just on or off. An analogue" value 0-255 can be returned.
The example stated is ...
Axle counters, analog gauge, speedometer, etc can report an 8-bit value.
I wonder where this feedback is going to come from ??? sounds like decoder stuff from the loco
What will it be used for and how ???
Will the loco stop if the fuel runs out.

This comes from the internal change log after upgrading to GFP 1.36, it doesn’t rely upgrade software to 1.4.5(1) because its still a beta.

Point your PCs web browser @ http://???.???.???.???/hilfe/ChangeLog.html where ???.???.???.??? is the CS2's ipaddress. URL is case sensitive - capital C and L
or extract it from the file downloadable from the Marklin website
I can't fully comment on the Beta-ness, but the simple s88 stuff I have tried seems to work and the CAN doc referenced as 1.4.5 was there in the 1.4.0 download file

Hi Peter.
I downloaded the USB version and opened the following:
cs2.hilfe gives me ChangeLog.html 10/27/2010 16kb
I open that and get this:
GUI Version 1.4.0 build 1, GFP 1.28 (September 2010)
Maybe the USB version has not been changed yet?
As for the S88, are you talking about the polling issues?

I have always simply hooked up my CS2 to my router and let it call home. Updates no problem. Why are so many people using the USB stick? They seem to have problems. Why not take the line out of your computer and put it to the CS2 if you don't have a box of some kind?
Anyway, you all have me scared to update. When I get home from vacation, I will do it the way I always do and expect success.
