Today I got my first gator and I would like to know how to fix the uhlenbrock 76320 decoder...In the loco instructions it says to affix sticky tape around the decoder. Is it to prevent electrical contact? What about heat? Wouldn't heat be generated in the decoder? What type of tape is suitable? Electrical insulator tape or any type of tape?? |

congratulations with your first Croc, George. I normaly use double adhesive tape to mount the decoders, and you can use electrical insulator tape protect the decoder if it is not protected with heat-shrinking-tube, like ESU do. There should not be any problems heat, this mostly an issue in case of overload and shortcircuits. |

Love my gator already. ..it has this nice catchy sound track...it just demands attention!!! I see now what the fuss is all about...However, I have a little problem with my krokodil - I have fixed a dc decoder (uhlenbrock 76320) and it works fine apart from the lights....I have no lights in either direction. I have tried inserting the decoder plug the other way round, but it is still the same, I programmed the decoder each time, still no lights, but motion is proper. I am sure there something wrong here but I can't pin point it.... |

Well, after a five week wait I received delivery of my third Krok - a 30159. It cost a ridiculous price and I love it. When I was bidding for it on ebay I felt like I had an unseen hand guiding me forward, against my better judgement, but somehow in my own best interests. I had a 3015 when I lived in Germany in the early 60's. It cost about 30DM, which in those days was about $7 Cdn. In my mid teens in Canada I lost interest in trains and sold the whole kit for $50. Several years ago I came across a 3652 Krok near Ottawa for $200, which I jumped at. It is an excellent runner but somehow didn't have the feel in my hands that I recall from my 3015. Nor does it drive at both ends. Last summer I purchased a Roco Krok which is the most prototypical of the three and is my daily runner. But when I held the 30159 in my hands I knew I had the real thing. That sucker is heavy. And I can't even assure you that the madness is past. Maybe after tax time I will return to German ebay in search of a 3015. You probably all understand the nature of my disease. |

In my above post I go on about my acquisition of a brown 30159 krok. At the end I was not able to promise to you that the madness was past. Last week my wife and I were in Paris. Before leaving, off course, I researched the Marklin retailers in central Paris. What I had in the back of my mind was a 3015 Krok, but what were the chances that I would find such a beast lurking in a Parisien train store. Well guess what? In the third store on my list I struck it big. There was a tannengrun 3015 complete with OVP and papers. So what could I do. After the proprietor demonstated the Krok for me I felt that fate had intervened and I must buy it. I am probably one of the few tourists to return from Paris with a vintage German locomotive. Vive La France. |

Peter, very interesting. Soest, deja vu, all over again. As a child I was a maerklin guy and my buddy had a 3015, that I always lusted after. In Seattle, in 1963, most kids had Lionel (my older brother included). 2 years ago,I got a new job, signing bonus, and my wife said "go nuts". So I got a wonderful 30159 and it is beautiful. Then when the U.S.A. economy was so low, a year ago, I got a 3015, bargain priced on ebay... |

Members, Can I suggest a more radical approach to the Gatormania - Gators & Crocodiles topic, anyone who has'nt got 3 of these species on hand should be black listed until he or she can prove to be worthy of appreciating these legends.

This is taken straight out of the brochure from the museum: "Sir Leslie Wilson, 1928, Swiss Loco Works and Metropolitan Vickers UK. This locomotive was part of the first batch of 41 DC electric locomotives to reach India. These articulated locomotives worked on the Great Indian Peninsula Railways, later Central Railway."
The museum itself was fascinating and I'm planning to share some of the photos in a post soon.

Hello Eduard,
I have a 69848 and it does not have lighting. The model has shunting platforms which include a facsimile of lights which do not illuminate. The wiring for the lights seems to be present under the shrouds at either end.
Cheers,
Mike |

Added this Swedish black beauty to my small collection ... well, not being a blonde oughta be no problem when it comes to locos. ASEA's famous Rc is one of the very best Electrics ever, and in M's long line of locos with us since the year 1968. This is their latest edition Rc3 #37416, and thank well-proven DCM motor and smooth metal gears her running characteristics are just nice Finish & craftmanship are excellent, and she got a whistle. You may ask what a Bo'Bo' got to do at Gatormania. Simple like that - she's their helper. It's her main duty supporting all my Gators in moving all the heavy freight up the steep NYC Highline, and she definitely does a great job. Even her color matches the railroad. And again the masterpiece pictures are by my old friend Alberto, our Leonardo da Vinci of MRR photography http://www.marklinfan.net/ |
