Hi all,
For my birthday this past year I received an MTH model PRR 4-6-2 K4. It is DCC and really a beauty of a locomotive, so I've decided to keep it and buy some TRIX c-track and c-track switches to use for a small layout.
Question, are the current c-track switches DCC compatible <u>without</u> modification?

So I guess I can assume that the TRIX switches will work in DCC operation without causing a short circuit?

Ahummm... You can using Marklins turnout motor itemnr:74490 and replacement them on Trix C-track switches and using for exemple Lenz switch turnout decoder name LS150. It´s just one of the good exemple what you can do. Trix C-track switches are equipped for Analog and DCC power,by just follow after information what it stand on it.The info is there in the boxes of switches. Good luck...! Goofy  |

Hi Joe.
I am using the Viessmann 5231 decoder with DCC and have not had any problem.
I can also add that the Trix turnuots have an isolated frog that can be either left floating or power-switched with the turnout, selectable by a jumper. If left floating the turnout can be trailed with the points in the wrong position - just like a Marklin turnout. This works fine for larger locs, but small locs may get contact problems and requires the power-switched frog setting.

Thanks Roger, as Goofy mentioned in a previous post the instuctions for using the Trix switch (point) in DCC is included in the packing box.
I want to continue using the c-track system (from TRIX in this case) because it's very easy to work with, robust and when compared to the Kato 2 rail, system about the same cost wise. Also, it doesn't use those cursed rail joiners.

The TRIX points (turnouts/weichen) are designed just like the Maerklin ones excepting there are no center-rail studs and as Roger states, the frogs are isolated. You can use Maerklin turn-out motors (744490) and light kits (74470) with them. You should have no problems using them with DCC. Lenz and Viessmann decoders are compatible. There are instructions with the turnouts.
You can also use the TRIX points in analogue mode also. There is a difference in rail profile height as the TRIX C-track was designed more for RP-25 wheel sets. It is 2.1 mm in height (Code 83) and Maerklin C-track is 2.3 mm (Code 90). There is an adapter track (62951) that you can use that will mate the TRIX C-track to Code 83 2-rail DC track. You can also mate it to older TRIX International 2-rail DC track that has a profile height of 2.7 mm (Code 110). You would have to file down the rails at the connection points to accommodate the height difference. |

Trix switches with frog IS NOT isolated,because the frog is made of metal. Instead you mean that frog can been controlled by connecting via contact under the switch.By polarity the frog. Goofy |

The TRIX turnouts has a switch underneath.  There are 2 options: 1) "insulfrog" or turnoutfrog is isolated. 2) 'livefrog" or turnoutfrog is powered according to the setting of the switch. |

Oppssss...! Of course,the frog IS isolated... [:I] I mean,that frog can been controlled via contact under the switch. The frog is still after all made of metal,for higher safety contact with wheels of locomotiv or railwayscar. Good nice picture anyway...!  Goofy [:o)] |
