It has train-tracking capability like I know it from traincontroller. You can assign a train to a block and the commander will follow that train as it passes S88 contacts/blocks, and display it on the screen. Looks rather advanced to me, and definately better that what ecos/cs/ib can do. On the the other hand the functionality is probably more limited than what you can do with software, and you only have a relatively small screen. Bert

goofy is making the right choice with commander, since it also operates in DCC, he can still use it when he sells off all his 3-rail/marklin again and switches over to DC/DCC again.
Should have saved this for the major surprise announcement.

I cannot imagine something as good as this product sounds will have the bugs worked out of the software for 3 years or so. Hopefully, I am wrong for those of you that buy them at the early stage, but anything this complex is bound to be problematic for the first wave of users.

Considering the talk about the Commander... has anybody actually bought one. I think this will be another controller with low sales.

they've been promising this thing for at least two years, after showing it at the german toy/train trade shows at least that long ago, so that ought to leave one for debugging. I'll wait for others to buy and try first - and isn't in my train budget right now anyways.

Haven't bought one (yet), but from what I've heard it functions quite well. Of course it has some bugs, but its been tested on some large club's layout I believe, so most of the functionality *should* be in and working. |

Goofy, I think a CS combined with a computer and software like RR&Co TrainController will offer you much more than the VC! René |

I have been notice, that there is some severals function in other digital compenets that is more harmony by using it than CS. And besides, take look at Uhlenbrocks new Intellibox II...! What an "candy" digital system...! Goofy |

Viessmann is reported to have the 'connect' component ready to allow legacy digital systems to be used with the Commander.

I keep seeing updates on this thread and thinking maybe there is some real news or review here, basically something of interest, but 99% of it has just been postings from "goofy" on how is is supposedly changing from this system to that, and DC to AC, and era I to III (or whatever). I have my doubts this person actually owns an marklin or has any "real' interest in model trains. He's posted a few pictures here, but that proves nothing. If he really does and he is returning all this stuff, he dealer ought to start charging a restocking fee - he could get by on that alone to pay for his business costs liek rent and electricity.

Hmmmm,
viesmann have produced some interesting models in recent years. Specifically the ones having sex. I can't help but wonder if the Commander will control them? An interesting icon perhaps on the touch screen. And then the term Commander...maybe a nod to S&M?
