Some model trains would have trouble with a curve like that!
There's a tram turning circle like that in (or near) Karlsplatz in Munich, so that's what it might be. In fact there must be quite a few in Munich because all the trams only have driver cabins at one end and doors on one side. The same applies to a number of other German cities. |

I now suspect that the train visible on the right of the picture is probably actually a tram... in fact now that I follow the tracks I see where they join the road system....
When we lived in Munich our apartment was at Machtelfinger Platz - the end of the line for Tram 16 which stopped running a couple of weeks after we moved in. |

With a similar curve to the other side of track you have a heart.

Yes, and the tracks are separated from the other tracks as well. /Lars

The catenary masts are much lighter too. And to echo Dale's comment, it definitely looks like one of those multiple articulated trams on the right of the photo. |

The turning radius of the street cars can be rather small.
Just outside Oslo, at Jar station (combined station for subway and tram) it is a U-shaped track with only approx. 35 meters diameter (radius = 17,5 meters). That gives a H0 radius of just 20 cm.
At Google Earth you find it 59 deg 55' 30.27" N and 10 deg 37' 02.42" E. The streetcar returns direction Oslo while the subway, now on the surface, continues westwards. |

Hi, Yes, this is for turning railcars. It is near the DURLACH - station. But there is something special with this: On this line two-system trains are used which run with 750V DC downtown and 15000 V 16.67 Hz AC on the main -lines. The turn is only used by single-system trains which only can run with 800 V DC. The upper two lines on the picture are 750 V - DC, the other rails are own by the DB. About 3 kms east of this point the train changes the electric-system and both lines are connected. (Grötzingen Bahnhof). The system is very extensive. More than 400kms of rails.
