Very good, Stefan. Thank you for your excellent help. I had originally seen the HAG 28 208-3 on your website, which is outstanding. Unfortunately, I had not noticed the "Produkte in Vorbereitung" portion of the HAG website. Thanks again.

BTW, collecting HAG models can occasionally be almost as profitable as investing in shares of an oil company. wink This one here was produced for a couple of collectors about one and a half years ago - price then 480 Swiss Francs (approx. 435 US Dollars). Closing price on eBay this evening a staggering 2,222 Swiss Francs or about 2,016 US Dollars. Not bad, eh? [:p]

Stefan - The price of that locomotive is astounding. Does HAG have limited editions and runs and are they designated so? Are they the best ones to expect that the article will appreciate? Just wondered what your insights are for obtaining the best value over time of the HAG asset. Thanks.

Larry, yes, in the past HAG have often produced very limited editions and also custom painted individual models (for instance for a birthday, an anniversary, a company event, etc.). Some items are "inside experiments and jokes" that are never advertised and can't be obtained by the general public. The Ebay auction mentioned above and previous ones reveal that there seems to be a certain interest in such models.

Generally, however, I would strongly advise against collecting HAG with the sole intention of making a profit someday. There is simply too much stuff around on this declining market.

Thanks, Stefan, for your advice. No, I'm not a collector, I run these trains and do not expect to make a profit on them, much less sell many of them. I'm just curious as to what the markets value highly and not. In the US, a couple years back many individuals bought the Lionel O gauge Acela with its long-awaited operating doors, authentic sounds, tilting cars and other advance technology. I bought it because I liked it and it is still the most marvelous model I've operated. Yet, the prices on email are such that you can buy it since it came out somewhat below its retail price. Many speculators thought they'd make a bundle on it and they may but short term the opposite happened with so many in the market with the same intentions.

Hi: At the Eisenbahn Center, Marktgasse 10 in Zürich, I was tutored on the scale issues between HAG and Roco, especially in the passenger car category. My HAG Re460 is precisely the same length as my Märklin Re460. But as we saw above, that is not always the case. So there are variable length scale issues, and you have to decide what you want to be able to do.

The S-Bahn coaches (Blue and White) are made by Fleischmann. The IC2000 Intercity Doubledeck coaches are 100% made by Hag.

Hag decided to adopt the 1:93.5 standard, as this results in coaches that can handle radius 1 and run on radii 2 or 3 with minimal overhang. Fleischmann and now Maerklin and Trix are all using this standard for new models.
