Two days ago Ia was at my dealer playing with one upgraded CS out of the first batch of CSs he sent to M. Unfortunately, mine was in the second batch, so I don't have mine yet.
Either way, I liked the software and its capabilities. I didn't get to fully test it, since it was someone else's CS, and anything I would have like to do would have changed the owner's programming, but the menus were simple and fast.
I liked it indeed, and all promises seem fulfilled.

Hi PÃ¥l,
glad to hear that you're as well very satisfied with Märklin's performance! I assume it will be even better when you see your wish for the (new) documentation being fulfilled - as I had stated it in my other message.

Note: This is a reply to a thread which has IMHO been misplaced.

Just wondering if off hand if there are symbols for the following:
1-Rail Zeppelin
2-F7 or any other US Train except the Big Boy?
Does anyone if you can now upload a picture or a symbol to your own CS once you get the update?
Thanks in advance,
Bob R
1 - yes
2 - depends, there are different new ones which could map to a U.S. loco/train
The option to generate and upload own icons exists in the system (both CS and ECoS), but has not been enabled yet.

There are 11 Locomotive Icons for the Original Release CS. With the updated version, how many are there now? Anyone want to list everyone of them?

Hi Steven. Hope your CS is OK. Why no English manual. How long does it take to translate from German to English. 30 minutes maybe and the way they are printed in black and white on cheap paper the whole job could be done in a couple of days by a good printer.
David
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

Lutz, I just thought it would be kind of interesting if someone would post the Loco Icons for everyone. You are lucky, you got your updated before everybody else did. Others are getting their's done now or are in the process there of. However us lowly USA Residents do not even have an agenda yet as well as NO information from Marklin USA yet. Ours probably will not be updated until the Nov - Dec time frame if then. So I thought it would be nice to see what we are going to get, even if it is 3 to 6 months from now.

Correct. The new international manual version should be available soon and thus everything ready to perform as well the updates in other countries/for languages other than German.

Following his words he sent the CS in the 19.06 and got it back updated today 04.07.
Stones are starting to roll
That is very good indeed - only two weeks turnaround time - as long as "they" roll out of Germany too - but do they?
Taking my own case my CS was shipped from the dealer in the second week of june (week 23) and including two weeks for shipments to and from it would be fair to expect it back just around now, BUT according to my dealer to day, he does not expext any updated CS's returned at least this month! That makes me wonder how FIFO is interpreted in Göppingen.
Now, it was not stated above if the update was actually done in G*. Also my dealer could be surprised with an earlier return shipment from M* than he is expecting. Time will show.

Congratulations Steventrain!
Good to hear that the update is worth waiting for.
As per your entries your CS was sent to M* on 07/07-07 and returned on 07/25-07. Very good and fast turn aruond time!
But this makes me just wonder about the FIFO procedure (First In First OUT) that is said to apply for this update program. It does not seem to apply at all! My CS has been away now for 7 weeks!
Am I the only one in this forum that had the CS sent to M* in june

Do not worry, I bet my CS is still somewhere on a large stack at the Dutch M* Service Centre...they planned to start end July.
But It doesn't bother me too much, as I learned in another threath Dutchies are the happiest on the globe, even if their CS is at the bottom of the stack [xx(]

I sent my CS to M in june, got a letter on july 5th that a new CS on the way to me where because the old one had a fault.
After 3 weeks I called M to hear about my package because it hadn't arrived yet. The sad news was that they had exchanged so many old CS' that they had none in stock anymore. Now I have to wait till october before they can deliver it to me :(
So instead, I bought an updated CS on Ebay and Im gonna sell the old one when I get that later this year.

Hi Bob,
I checked the list again (just for you
) and it's even more - I came to a total of 68 on my CS (11 steamer, 15 diesel, 32 electric, 6 trains including the railbus, 3 passenger cars and the crane). As you can see from the picture, the Schienenzeppelin you had asked for is the 5th last in the list.

Only 68?
That's less than what was in the original CSX (given that the crane,at least, has been added)!
http://pws.prserv.net/pjc/trains/loksymbole.html
Are the images better resolution and/or colour .bmps?
I would have also expected some improvements in the ergonomics of selection.
- maybe tree structure with "Steam,Diesel,Elec,Other" then by wheel arrangement
- also an upload or design capability.
- slider not so close to the ridge/frame
- X and V not so close together or to the sliderbar
In fact why a scroll bar at all ?

Instuction about connect the MS to CS update.
When the Mobile Station is connected to the Central Station for the first time, the Central Station checks the version of the database in the Mobile Station. If this version is older than the version in the Central Station, then this database is automatically updated. The screen on the Mobile Station will go dark during this process. A note about the updating process will appear after a short while on the Central Station’s screen. After the updating of the database in the Mobile Station is finished, the latter will also be reset. All of the data in the Mobile Station’s locomotive will be erased in the process!
The transfer of data from the central Station to the Mobile Station takes about 3 - 10 minutes.

I also did as Steven says above with my MS's and it worked as you describe.
I think this is a very good function / possibillity of the CS.
When we get never software and also never list of locomotive's and so on to the CS
we just need to connect the MS to the CS once more and it will be updated again,,,
Nice as this make's our MS never to go "old", hehehe,,,

Lutz,
You are half correct, In the past I have made extensive use of the feedback page. However As I have never had any acknowledgement, either directly or via updates to the FAQ page I now have zero expectations and have given up.
I would estimate that I sent about 20 'feedbacks' between Oct2005 and Mar2006, primarily when I was experimenting with the CS. Some were questions for clarification, some were technical issues (3way turnout issue), a lot were impressions (suggested improvemens), some were miscelaneous (when would the FAQe in english, can you please add a 'last updated' date to the FAQ index)
A quick look at the FAQs requires blowing the cobwebs away. There isn't even a reference to the CS update/fix !
<STOP PRESS>
<STOP PRESS>

something HAS happened
While the CS section has not been updated since July LAST YEAR , there are actually a few entries in Neueste Beiträge from THIS month !!!!
Is this a webserver issue? The 'Themen' count implies 7 articles but I can only see 5

I have mine already!
I brought it home, my database was intact, everything looking excellent, then I put a new lok in the track and the CS crashed straight away.
When it came back up, the lok database was completely wiped off.
Great start, hey?
Fortunately, the most difficult setup to bring back up, the accessories one is still intact. Now, off to rebuild my database. BTW, although the serial number is the same, my RJ45 plug is now of the new style, while it used to be an older style.

In the past I have made extensive use of the feedback page. However As I have never had any acknowledgement, either directly or via updates to the FAQ page I now have zero expectations and have given up.
My feedback page contains the following German explanations:
"Bitte haben Sie Verständnis dafür, dass die Kollegen bei der Vielzahl der Mitteilungen keine Möglichkeit haben, Ihnen im Einzelfall zu antworten. Sie können jedoch sicher sein, dass alle Beiträge gelesen und berücksichtigt werden, wo immer dies möglich ist.
Häufig gestellte Fragen beantworten wir im Systems-FAQ und in der Rubrik "Märklin Systems" im laufend aktualisierten FAQ auf
www.maerklin.de
. "
In a short translation: "Please understand that due to the large number of messages you might not get an individual response, but be assured that alle postings are being read and considered, if suitable.
Class problem questions are being answered in the Systems-FAQ, etc."
So, clearly this is per definition not a "direct" bi-directional communication path.

Some were questions for clarification, some were technical issues (3way turnout issue), a lot were impressions (suggested improvemens), some were miscelaneous (when would the FAQe in english, can you please add a 'last updated' date to the FAQ index)
Good to hear about your testing and feedback activities (mine were a little bit more "excessive"; depending on the finding or issue I sometimes even called them or wrote e-mails). According to the explanations you should not really have expected a direct response upon your questions for clarification, impressions and misc. The 3-way turnout issue is reflected in FAQ (section CS #9). I could see that a good number of my responses eventually ended up in corresponding changes or FAQ items.

Makes sense (or not) since the reference is made here:

[size=1" face="Verdana" id="quote]quote:there are actually a few entries in Neueste Beiträge from THIS month !!!!
If you look at them (this is what I always do first when going to the FAQ pages) you'll recognize that they all relate to new (class) problems which have been found with the update; i.e. it looks like they a) get feedback, b) read it and c) act accordingly.

[size=1" face="Verdana" id="quote]quote:Is this a webserver issue? The 'Themen' count implies 7 articles but I can only see 5
Me too, but I can easily live with that (harmless). Maybe I'm still providing a feedback on this some time; but surely I'll not expect any direct response - either they treat this important enough and fix it or they don't.

Short question, Luis:
Didn't you do your data backup right after you had your CS back (see also handbook section 7.3.1.)?

I simply had no time. I booted up, there was a new lok in the track, and bang.
In the shop, I had the time to check my database was intact.

Mmmmmm.... It has crashed again, when putting a lok on track. It was a bad crash too, since I had to remove the batteries to make it reboot. This time the database was not wiped out.
I then tried to punish it and provoke a crash: I put 6 mfx loks on the track at the same time and expected a crash: nothing! It dealt with the fact perfectly and recognized them all.
Anyway, I managed to have it working for a few hours after that, with no more quirks. It is also now accessing my wireless LAN, via a Linksys WET54G wireless bridge to a Linksys WRT54G router.
I've done backups, I haven't tried restores yet. I'm surprised by the very small size of the backup files: 10 loks and 10 accessories results in a 4,00 KB file!
I couldn't telnet into it, because it still requires a login+password, and no obvious choices worked, so I couldn't browse its contents and try to play with the icons...
I haven't tried any of its new capabilities yet, and some I won't even be capable of, due to lack of equipment (i.e. S88, 6021, 6015/6017...).

I have had those crashed a couple of times, but hasn't found a reason yet. The CS just dies completely and I have to remove batteries before it can start up again.
I had it a couple of times at the same moment where a contact for S88 registered, but it has also happened random a couple of times.
I have also tried to provoke it, but still no luck. I think it micht be a combination of several things

Nope it happened while I was only watching.
Not sure if it has any effect, but when I had the errors my trains where set to use 28 speedsteps. After changing back to 14 I havnt had any problems (yet) but I'll keep watching and testing

Hi Pal,
have you already compared this issue with the one you got with your updated CS? Interesting, isn't it!
